... in 40+ years of crap tactics... For Radlinger to repeatedly scuff the ball one yard to Andersen. He actually passed it backwards to him once, a **** half a yard pass that wrong footed him. It was like watching 7 year olds on the play ground, where one kid who thinks they’re the best has to have the ball. Absolutely abysmal. I have no idea what they were trying to achieve, and i never want to see it again.
How stubborn or simply incompetent do you have to be to continue such a pathetic tactic for the entire 90 minutes?
I’m gobsmacked that the coaching in this country is not better. It’s like everyone has been told the new rule and they’re all trying to utilise it, as if it’s become compulsory. The way we play it asks for trouble. Wouldn’t mind if Andersen could find his own player once in a blue moon, but then we have to factor in two seconds of p*$$ing about being shocked we’ve got the ball, a second of panic, and then whatever the crap outcome is - somewhere between conceding a goal, conceding possession, or hoofing the ball out if play. The Oakwell coaching staff need to have a good look at how abysmal and embarrassing that was.
I can't believe we were still doing it all 2 and 3 down. The opposition with a comfortable cushion have zero reason to try to hurry us to kick up field, so are quite right to sit back and leave us to piss about in our own box.
What puzzles me is - we won’t kick the ball from a goal kick, but when we kick off, when we actually could retain possession in the middle of the pitch, we make 1 pass back, and then hoof it into the corner.......every time
It would help though, if we had some physical presence up front to launch it to. At the moment we are caught between having players who are not good enough to play out from the back, and no target to hit when we play it long.
That is an excellent point actually haha..... I do believe the midfield is just as much of a problem with regards to retaining possession and showing for the ball
It's a great tactic for creating and exploiting space between the lines IF you have players who are skilled and composed enough to consistently resist the press. We don't. For us it inevitably results in a bit of nervous fannying before someone hoofs it anyway. When you think about it in basic terms we're swapping an unpressured long pass opportunity for a pressured long pass, with the chance of a disastrous c0ck up thrown in. It's madness.
First time under Struber I’ve questioned the man I think. Everything about tonight was dreadful, as stated above to stick with the same tactics throughout the game when it’s clearly costing us is a sign of incompetence. The substitutions were puzzling too, I don’t know how Thomas got dragged before Ritzmier? (No idea) left me scratching my head. And I think a huge part of tonight’s result is the managers fault. I’ll be there at Charlton but if the performance isn’t at least double of that tonight then it’ll be my last game away this year.
Darren Fletcher said this on TV after Derby game, said great tactics but you have to be very good to make it work and Barnsley just do not have good enough players and will be relegated as a result.
Do you know what. We didn't concede playing from the back. It was the inept defending that cost us 3 goals. What I didn't get was the goalie at the whistle for half time arms in the air at the ora stand for booing . Get off the fking field as quick as you can. This is the worst Barnsley team ever in the second tier. However it's not their or the managers fault . ASK the directors when they are taking their dividends at the end of season when the fire sale starts
This - in spades. We have the technically worst defensive players I’ve seen here in some time and yet we continue with a tactic that only Barcelona can play properly. I feel a bit for the players. Struber must be telling them to play that way - even though they don’t have the ability to carry out his instructions. Surely coaching is about working with what you’ve got, not trying to impose something on players who just can’t handle it. Just launch it long to the big lad. Oh, bit of a flaw in our recruitment there as well. Sitting in the Ponty is like watching a TV documentary when you know the car is going to crash. You just don’t know when. And as for Radlinger’s jesture to the crowd. Good God. What was he expecting, a round of applause and three cheers.
I said more or less the same to my non-Barnsley supporting friends when we were watching the Derby match in the pub. The interesting part is guessing just how it's going to go wrong this time.
