Big coverage piece in the i newspaper today talking about Pinnocks progress from Dulwich to Championship. Gives more credit to Dulwich coaching staff than to us. Good piece for Ethan though.
https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/...arnsley-brentford-non-league-to-championship/ I see what you mean. We don't get much praise.
I'm not sure we played much part in his development to be honest. He's always been a good defender who can tackle well. Being at Oakwell allowed him to show he could do it at a higher level, but I don't think he's had a stellar performance improvement with us. Indeed, his first season he was either injured our out of favour for the majority.
Really, he couldn’t command a start in his first season. I think he improved week in week out and really started to show his potential, and made himself an automatic choice. Came on leaps and bounds Imo
Seeing as Dulwich Hamlets ground is literally about 500 yards from my house, I'll stick with my assessment that his talent shone through as he has progressed up the leagues, and we had minimal impact compared to the way Gavin Rose coached him for years at Hamlets.
Was the same with Oztumer. Once they're given opportunity they grab it. Regular games is going to generally allow players to get better. Sticking a leg in and getting the ball was what he did at Hamlets. Bringing it up the pitch and passing it to Oztumer et al was precisely what he did at Hamlets. I suspect he did that at Forest Green too. Maybe I'm in a different position to just judging his time at Oakwell where he was hit by injury at first.
You simply hold an alternative viewpoint to Tarntyke, Jimmy viz & myself, that's all. Nothing wrong with that.
I know you'd have the same view too if you'd seen him at hamlets. ;-) Not seen them yet this season, but they seem to have got off to a good start, 10 pts from 5 games. Though there is further trouble on the horizon as the cayman island property developers that own the ground have put in for planning permission to develop the ground. 226 houses and flats with no allocated parking and trying to build a new ground (with a plastic pitch) on metropolitan and green belt land. Not good.
From the outside looking in, it's look particularly unpleasant. None of it alters my opinion of Pinnock improving at Barnsley by leaps and bounds, though.
But that's because you only saw him play a handful of games in a highly dysfunctional team and spend most of his time injured. Once he simply had a run of games, he merely did what he did at hamlets, just at a higher level. I don;t think the coaches at Barnsley had anywhere the same impact Gavin Rose did at hamlets.
I think the first time I saw him was the Caribao Cup match vs Morcambe. I think it may have been his full debut. He was too weak & not commanding enough in the air, but had all the skills with his feet & I commented we have a player there, if he could get stronger. I would say he developed a lot with us.
I was reading about the ground saga, my non league team Havant and waterlooville come there in October, does the new flats development pay for the ground? They were bigging up the benefits of the community use etc of the new ground, I take it that’s not the fans feeling? Any cool artisan snap to be had too?
