He was a bit annoying when he first started commentating for Channel 5 but seems to have calmed down a bit since, thankfully...
I don't like any of the commentators who do it in a high pitched, hysterical style. That includes men AND women. Not saying they should do it as if they are commentating on the Queen Mother's funeral, but hysteria just makes me turn the sound off.
Doesn’t bother me in the slightest. John Terry clearly has an opinion on it and wanted the world to know, ******* clown.
Lawrence and Keown aren’t commentators. They are there to give analysis. So you’re comparing wrongly. So like for like it would be Aluko or Lawrenson/Keown. Aluko is just awful. Alex Scott is better than the lot of them put together.
It was certainly strange at first as it is a change from the norm. But I think she did a fantastic job. I think the women that have been in the panel in the studio have also done a brilliant job and been very insightful and thoughtful in every thing they say. So it's a yes for me.
I hate Jonathan Pearce's commentary, comes across as too conscious of the sound of his own voice. His over-dramatisation was perfect for the robots, but is just too false for football. He should go and work in wrestling or darts
Agreed. A battery of shrill platitudes, cliches and stating the bleeding obvious. Had to turn the sound down. I do rate the female cricket commentators on both Sky and BT Sport.
A massive NO from me (which I also mentioned in the Bbc v Itv thread), its an awful idea and its only going to get worse if they allow more of them to do it.
It doesn't mean I like Mark Lawrenson and other bores like Phil Neville for example, but yes I suppose Id still prefer Pearce any day.
She’s good churlish to say otherwise. Not sure why her gender should matter to anyone really she clearly has the job on merit.
Yes she was, as was Alison Mitchell in the last Ashes series. Both have great depth of knowledge and an engaging commentary style.
This is a shocking comment to be fair. I think you need to take a long hard look in the mirror if you think comments like that last sentence are acceptable in 2018.
The bbc one? I think she’s dreadful She sounds like she has won a competition. I used to commentate to computer football games when I was a child and record them on tape (yes, I was odd) and it sounds a bit like that. I think Ellie Aluko as a pundit has been really good and nice to have a gender balance - I just think the commentator whose name escapes me is rubbish.
Merit ? It’s the bbc box ticking and everyone knows it . It’s typical of this gender equality crap . We now have jo Wiley and Simon Mayo doing drive time and it’s spoiled what was one of my favourite shows all in the name of equality , they’re both good presenters in their own right but together it just doesn’t work . How about people getting gigs on merit ? Can’t have that now can we .
