I've listed below along with my predictions, but what do people think would be a decent points return? I'm hoping for 10 points from 15 (minimum) which would take us to 72 points with 10 matches left to play. 6 wins out of our last 10 would then take us to to the 90 point mark. Wycombe (H) Sat 16th Feb - Win Burton Albion (H) Tues 19th Feb - Draw Portsmouth (A) Saturday 23rd Feb - Lose Southend (A) Saturday 2nd March - Win Accrington Stanley (H) Saturday 9th March - Win I know Portsmouth's form has dropped off but with that game being the 3rd in a week I just have a feeling they make sneak a lucky win over us. Anyone know what our record is like at Fratton Park?
I can remember us winning once under Hendrie, I think. Apart from that result, Steve Claridge seems to score a hat-trick against us every time we go there. I reckon he's still got it in his locker anorl.
Remember losing at Pompey the Tuesday Night before we got promoted to the Prem on the Saturday v Bradford. Got pissed wet through (think it was that game) as it was uncovered seating at the away end. Otherwise very sketchy form at their place, last win 1999. Anyway I'll go: Wycombe (H) Sat 16th Feb - Win Burton Albion (H) Tues 19th Feb - Win Portsmouth (A) Saturday 23rd Feb - Win Southend (A) Saturday 2nd March - Draw Accrington Stanley (H) Saturday 9th March - Win
Aye we lost 4-2 I think. Pulled it back to 3-2 but they went and grabbed and 4th. Sure there was a hat trick that night too Was a school night for me (was only 10) and my Dad took me out of school early that night so that we would make it in time. Ended up going the wrong way on the way home and didn't get back until the very early hours, Mum was not impressed!
Here's our form against Pompey. It doesn't make for good reading. https://www.soccerbase.com/teams/head_to_head.sd?team_id=208&team2_id=2049 Having said that, Pompey will have to be very good on the day to beat these lads. I wouldn't be shocked if we won all 5 on current form.
I once went and we drew 0-0 near the end of the season, Dave Regis hit the post, with the balls this time. That was the highlight of the day. I've never gone back.
Not been since the 1980s. Went a few times and never saw us win. Always seemed to come away a bit disgruntled - similar to most visits to Hillsborough
Went over from France in 1980 and saw us win. From recollection, a first half Glyn Riley goal settled the match.
Lee Bradbury. Seem to remember some shocking refereeing (nowt new there then) but thinking it was fate that set us up for the momentous day at home to Bradford.
This was one memorable game, 4-2 down to draw 4-4 against the like of Prosinecki and co. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_1/1794007.stm
I first went during in 79 with the Cudeth (Pinfold) Branch. It was the game that effectively took us up after a 1-0 win, though the actual promotion came a few days later at home v Grimsby when the crowd at Oakwell was allegedly 250,000. Rough place in those days. They smashed up a cafe we were in pre match in Southsea and We knew we were in a bit of trouble during the game when the Ref gave us a corner after 15 mins and they invaded the pitch from two sides in protest. Managed to get out alive - just. Been down a couple of times since. Once with 5 of us in a mate’s Skoda Estelle. You have to be certain age to understand how bad an idea that is! And once on the train when we had tickets for the home end. Another incredibly stupid idea. In spite of that catalogue of disasters i’ll be down for the weekend for this one.
Think that was the game when travelling back after the game we had a car pull along side the coach with two idiots hanging out of the car windows waving large knives at us making throat slitting gestures and then kept trying to stab the back tyres of the coach... I think the coach driver when he realized what was happening cut them up big time (pardon the pun) causing the car to swerve away and eventually give up the chase .. Followed us for quite a few miles if memory serves me right scary at the time
If we win all 5 and still aren’t top of the league, then hats off to Luton we might as well give them the title
Wycombe will be difficult if we play like we did at their place. It would be nice if we did a Gillingham on them.
