Is that it requires referees to admit they were wrong.

It's fantastic if a referee can put his ego aside, IMO.

Two penalties denied because the ref won't refer to VAR.

It’s an absolute waste of time.

Up to now I thought it has been OK. That ref was a piece of dogshit.

I don’t think he needs to refer it to VAR, they can advise him to take a look if they believe there was a clear and obvious error. Given Kane was wrestled to the ground at least three times they must have been asleep not to advise him to review ..... unless they did and he refused

Which is exactly the reason it should be used to review everything or nothing. Right now it’s a total waste of time.

They did ask him to review the first one. The commentators mentioned that it was flagged on their screen as to be reviewed but quickly disappeared. Unless I imagined that

They did but apparently the ref decided he didn’t need to.

If the VAR team have seen something then the referee should be compelled to review it otherwise its pointless

They did that with the Sweden penalty earlier so why did that not happen tonight?
    Needs to be consistent

VAR differs from the rugby and cricket versions in that the pitch referee is pandered to and the decision isn't taken out of his hands by the video ref. That's one of the reasons why it isn't going to work as well at present.

VAR should be independent of the ref on the field. They should simply overrule a wrong decision.

As the panel stated...this var was brought in to stop exactly this kind of thing....what was the ref thinking for goodness sake and all the team in the var room!
    More training and development required.

One would hope he gets shafted for his refusal to use VAR. Next plane home.

Reyt, I've given this some thought and here's how it should work. 3 refs watch on VAR in separate rooms. If there's a contentious incident they watch the reply and each hit a button - green for agree with ref, red for disagree. Someone sits in a separate room with a radio link to the ref on the pitch and 3 lights in front of him. If he sees 3 green lights or 2 green and 1 red he doesn't contact the ref and play continues. 2 red and one green and the ref on the field is told to take a look at it and make a decision (and he has to review it, he doesn't choose whether or not to review it). 3 reds and the ref is overruled and has no say about it.

You can bet you bottom dollar that had England done that it would have been used without question.

It was wrong, but we move on.

I live in Headingley & the morons leaving the Original Oak tonight gave the impression we had won the ******* WC.
Keep the young lads focused on getting better & the biased **** of a referee may have done us a favour.
