Agreed. Smoke and mirrors from day 1 for me. We got very lucky with the punts we made three years back and more importantly, we didnt try to fill the team full of them unlike this season. Without a solid, quality spine of championship players to any side then this will be the result. As i said in another thread, time for the billionaire board to be realistic and put their hands in their pockets and start to buy quality if they want to achieve success in the EFL.
Don’t think the plan was wrong just us getting caught out by not agreeing new deals with players prior to us getting promoted and losing the spine of our team. It would have worked more successfully had it been gradual tweaks rather than wholesale changes.
I agree but the only answer is to spend our way out of this hole now we have the means. Under PC we were sold this great vision which has proved to be nonsense sadly, mainly due to lack of money. Now the only way to rectify is to buy quality and adapt a wage structure that suits.
It was so blatantly the emperors new clothes, but it was sacrilege on here to call the board at the time out on it. Add to that the fact that it was implemented with a ridiculous literal zeal where there was a de facto ban in place on signing players over 23 - I mean have you ever heard anything so f.cuking stupid?
Yes, anyone who doubted the veracity of 'The Plan' was deemed to be disrespectful to the Cryne family.
Signing 14 players from well below this level I knew it wouldn’t be long before some superfan defended it
A balanced approach to recruitment where you look for value but offset that with the odd experienced player who can help bring your young players on. A balanced approach to player sales where you take the big money occasionally to balance the books when required, but you don’t greedily sell every single player the first moment someone looks at them and make millions of pounds of profit at the expense of losing the best team you’ve had for twenty years. That mainly.
Don't think throwing a ball of money is the answer.. yes up our game and pay a bit more in wages and transfers. But we need better scouts and coaches as well. All our loans can't get a game at lower league clubs.. so what's the point in bringing em back. What an utter waste of time
I'm no super fan but if you know how to take the club forward without putting it's resistance at risk do share
We went out and tried to be clever and sell all of our quality players for millions, and replace them for thousands. And we did it on unknown under 23 rubbish who hadn't ever played a minute in this league. Now Im amazed the plan got us as far as it did to be honest, and it serves us right now as a club because we're going back down to the awful alehouse league. All the hard work that people put in during the promotion era has just been or is still being peed away now and its an absolute disgrace.
