Went to Olympic stadium last week, gold circle so was right by the stage. Enjoyed it even though I’m not really a fan, thought I best go before one of them shuffles off this mortal coil Jagger still puts on a very good show
Saw them circa 1981 Roundhay Park in Leeds. Wasn’t keen on them until that concert and they were magnificent. They were considered to be an ‘old man band’ back then. The energy and enthusiasm from Mick Jagger was very impressive indeed. Other supporting bands were, George Thoroughgood and the Destroyers, Joe Jackson, who were very good, but J. Geils band were crap, and they were chart toppers with Angel in the Centrefold. Estimated 120,000 there. Hope you enjoy the concert.
I've seen the stones twice - last time was at the Don Valley Stadium - they are impressive, very impressive but I'm looking forward more to see Wilko in August to be fair
Jagger is a top if not THE top band front man , first saw them at Knebworth 76 , Skynyrd stoke the show but Jagger was amazing . Last saw them in the 90’s at Maine Road and they were brilliant
The Rolling Stones have released one good album in my lifetime (Exile on Main Street), and I'm 47 now.
After Knebworth their next festival appearance was the summer of 2007 Isle of Wight. It was staggeringly good and I had never been a Stones fan before then.
never been a fan never will be but seen them twice 1st city hall Sheffield 1963/4 at that time the stage was in the centre of the floor seating all round, all we saw, thank God, was backs of their heads. Couldn't hear a thing for the screams but they only did 4 numbers. The 2nd time was at The Futurist Scarbro, just released Satisfaction acoustics brilliant, Lulu supported,
Seen them live three times. Doncaster Baths ( Robin Eldridge's " Beat Night). The Beatles played there as well later and at the Co-op Ballroom. Both gigs were before they were famous. They used to lower a wooden floor down from the roof to cover the Swimming Pool over. The night the Beatles were there, Liverpool had a game. Between songs Macca shouted to people in the crowd " anybody know how Liverpool are doing.?" Last time I saw the Stones was at the Gaumont Theatre Doncaster. Compère was Jimmy Tarbuck. They were on the bill with Spencer Davis Group, Little Richard, Bo Diddely and the Everly Brothers. The Stones were good, but I was particularly impressed with Don and Phil Everly's set. Absolutely brilliant.
talking of those days, a few years on saw Duane Eddy at Greasborough Club, guitar superstar of the 60's playing in a glorified wmc lol.
There was a Beat Night at a pub in Thorne Moorends near Donny called " Uncle Arthur's" ( Moorends Hotel. I had a mate called Billy Berry who was a barber. He used to take his gear along and for free entry to the Show, offered the Bands a free trim or haircut. Me and another mate used to help carry their gear in, so we passed as roadies and we're also let in for nowt. It seemed nothing at the time, but I realised much later, I'd been in the dressing room while Billy plied his trade on Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas, The Searchers, The Mersybeats, Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, Shane Fenton and the Fentones ( later known as Alvin Stardust), Gerry and the Pacemakers, Sonny Webb and the Cascades, Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders, Screaming Lord Sutch and the Savages and Freddie and the Dreamers to name a few. Those were the days. Rarely got any blood in my alcoholic stream. Not a care in the World.
