When the sale of Barnsley fc was dragging on ,there were cynics predicting that the sale of Newcastle utd would be pushed through & completed before ours, despite being put on the market after ourselves , so it is with interest that I read this morning that their owner Mike Ashley is considering lowering the sale price as the club has now been for sale for eleven months & they are no nearer a deal , imagine what it would have been like on here if we had still been in limbo , Meltdown !
Ashley is a nasty piece of work. I doubt if serious investors would have much time for him. If they can't get a buyer after last season's over achievement, then it's clear he's asking too much for the club. It's not like he needs the money & he gets more bad publicity from Sports Direct than he does from Newcastle these days.
Barnsley Football Club was up for sale for about 13 years according to PC. During that time none of us know who offered to buy it. He never got around to selling it until he probably had to. IMO - weve just been through about 12 years of stagnation at the club where nothing was built off or on the field. But we’ve had this conversation before. Hopefully things will change.
Why use an unrelated situation to have a dig at Barnsley supporters who wanted to see summat different at the club?
pc always maintained that from day 1 of his takeover that the club was forsale to the right buyer ( I got that straight from the horses mouth) and as for the stagnation I agree. . . . . . well apart from the play off win at Cardiff, the fa cup semi at Wembley, the jpt win at Wembley and the play off win at Wembley we've achieved nothing oh I forgot financial stability but apart from that. . . . . . what did the romans everdo for us
What you on about, I was highlighting how Ashley was having to reduce the asking price & also comparing the length of time by comparing the two sales , appears I have touched a nerve , no dig at Barnsley fans, just an honest opinion of what I think the reaction would be at our club , am I not allowed an opinion , do I post regular enough to offer my thoughts ? p.s , I was one who welcomed the sale & support the new owners as I did the previous owner .
No it wasn"t , you can have your opinion but it doesn"t make you right , I repeat I was highlighting things at Newcastle as opposed to ourselves .
That may be what you intended but if you re-read your post, the opening and closing paragraphs are a veiled dig at Barnsley fans otherwise why say it would have been meltdown on here?
Its my opinion thats all, not a dig that we would not have been patient for 11 months thats all , for goodness sake , can you not express an opinion without people thinking you are having a go, for the last time its an opinion not a dig . Incidentally , do you think the reds fans would have been happy to see the sale of the club be protracted for 11 months with no end in site ?
As I remember it was only Phil who predicted that the Newcastle sale would be done and dusted long before ours.
I do not know who said what & I am not bothered , I cannot remember what was said yesterday never mind months ago , but I do know that if our sale had been going on for 11 months and nowhere near a conclusion ,then our fans would not be happy , not a dig , just an opinion .
Regardless of your opinion Ashley is a proper hard nosed business man who is driven by making profit. His remit for newcastle is very much spend within their means, staggered performance related pay etc not chuck the sink at it and hope for the best. The problem is the club he owns is Newcastle who barring a bit of Eu football ten years ago and a couple of cup finals and a second place finish last millenia have been unsuccessful for years have a fan base that seems to retain wednesday like delousions of granduer. Same fan base that seems to think they should be dining at the same table as the top four clubs. If Ashely owned say a Burnley there wouldnt be half the fuss.
Newcastle regularly get crowds in the region of 50 k , possibly that is one of the reasons they expect to be doing better .
