They are the homes already secured as affordable housing through planning policy. New housing developments are required to provide a proportion of the completed development for affordable housing. That's all these are, homes which are about to complete that would have gone to people on already huge waiting lists. The only additional financial outlay has been to increase labour on site to speed up delivery. I'm not saying the Grenfell residents shouldn't be given priority. In fact under existing allocations policy they probably would have had that anyway. But it certainly isn't new private market housing the government have bought, and it isn't increasing the overall affordable housing stock.
