Don't actually need a new stand though, just knock it down and be three-sided ground, will be a better atmosphere with people not spread out as much too.

The north stand has slowly been paid back though over the years, once again today we must be taking a sig figure sum from hudds fans, and we will be again when Wednesday come town, same as Leeds, Newcastle, Villa & Derby this season!!

He didn't just spend money on the ground though. He did very well with the surroundings too which will have enticed many players over the years. Without the vision he had our facilities like academy pitches could be at the same level of other clubs in the area like Donny and Rotherham. A new west stand with patience would eventually pay for itself and look very smart. Much better than what we can only half open that currently stands there.

As someone who works in that stand, I'd love a big shiny new one. It's just this idea that it apparently needs to go now based on a couple of games with large gates. We played top of the table Brighton last week, 11,000 home fans.

It's a tough one. I'd love to see something modern across from my ESL seat, but the chances are it would be half empty (or worse) unless we got to the PL. Look at all the completely developed grounds you see on the tv that have swathes of empty seats. Looks horrible.

I have always hated seeing the players coming out from the corner near the away fans. Be great if we went back to the half way line tunnel, but that means a massive development under any new stand with changing rooms, offices, etc. Hard to see us forking out for that.

Nothing drastic needed, just replace the upper tier.

More tripe. We built a stand in the East Stand with as much capacity as our gates at the time.

There was foresight in building a ground that gave us largely excellent facilities. Like the East Stand with the first executive boxes in South Yorkshire and a capacity at the time that could have held virtually everyone attending.

Pointless commenting on the second part.

I miss the old open hill ... Spion Kop or whatever it was called. Should have been listed !!
You couldn't beat walking round the ground at half time and getting soaking wet and cold out in the open.

It was a forced decision and helped by outside funding.

Not knocking him or the development, it's great. It's lovely that folk now see JD in a much more glowing light...

Id like to see it replaced. it doesn't have to be a huge thing. Just something newer with better facilities. There are loads of empty seats now anyway so wouldn't be any different. But at times when we are likely to get a big crowd we could actually use it. Certainly wouldn't cost anywhere near 15m to build. Rotherhams whole stadium only cost 17m

It was helped by outside funding but the point is we could have built a ground with a capacity of 12,000. Plus it was also funded by the great business in getting £4.5 million in selling Wardy.

JD made mistakes. But who hasn't.

I want it to go because it looks *****, and similar to our desperate town centre, it needs modernising. Despite the current favorable trend towards it brought on in no small part by our fanzine.

But clearly, there are compelling business reasons as to why we can't do it any time soon. Such is life. So we are stuck with it until we get promoted at the end of this season, or at worst case next season. UTR.

Re: Folk saying the West Stand should be knocked should be banned from Oakwell.

Aye cos it's first to sell out ,everybody wants to sit in West stand, should knock rest of ground down and put corrugated sheds on all four sides we'd sell out every game.
Especially when it's windy and or wet, pay on day would clamour for a ticket in West stand instead of going in pub or staying at home etc

Obviously he made some mistakes, we nearly lost the club, but his attitude was to always aim higher, now the club just seems to celebrate what it considers 'over-achieving' - the last year or so has been fantastic but the way we were robbed in January hurts. When you have a player like CH, who was pure quality in a reds shirt that we could never buy, you've just got say here there's 20 grand a week, stay with us and see where we can go.

When Middlesbrough moved from Ayresome Park to the Riverside their gates more than doubled. I advocate we build a new purpose built stadium.
