A tiddler caught in a net meant for much bigger fish finally landing at court years down the line at huge cost to the public purse.
Agree, but the upshot is it's another story that drags our clubs name through the mud. As if it could get any lower right now.
This pretty much. Not that I'm attempting to gloss over wrong doing just because it happened at the club I support. If Tommy Wright is guilty he deserves all he gets. But the front page headlines claimed corruption throughout the game. The England manager was implicated and resigned, yet it turned out he'd done nothing wrong, not that anyone will remember that. There was no widespread corruption, or no proof of it, just one man taking back handers for something anyone could tell you after watching a couple of our games. I'm not saying what is alleged is OK. But if Tommy Wright was the only problem then it warranted a piece in The Chronicle, not a national scandal, and a sacking (which happened) and a fine at the magistrates court in tarn, not a three year investigation. It was horse sh*t.
Reading an article in today's Mirror about this case. Allegations have also been made around the actions of three former high profile Managers. Wright and co-defendant Price both strenuously deny two charges of facilitating a bribe. Be interesting to see if the other claims are eventually investigated.
Doesn't sound good for him going off what Alfie Mawson said...... http://courtnewsuk.co.uk/accused-soccer-boss-signalled-10k-from-the-side-of-the-pitch/ Fancy someone we employed wanting one of our best players join one of our most hated teams so he can profit from it.
Thank you. I still don’t understand how people were defending Tommy when he was trying to get our best players to leave us.
Sorry I have zero sympathy with him. Big or large money, isn't the question. 5K to me personally is a lot of money, but undermining the club is a bigger crime in my book. Glad he's not at the club anymore & I hope he get's what's coming to him. It may be the thin edge of a wedge, but there is no defending his actions.
Anybody in any walk of life who takes money from an employer and actively seeks to weaken that employer deserves no sympathy in my book.
And although he was unsuccessful in getting alfie to leave to who he wanted to he did clearly get inside his head and make him want to leave.
Clearly? I don't think it's clear. Mawson will have been thinking about leaving anyway. Not defending his actions in the slightest, but footballers will always be looking for their next move, that's how it is. He was just trying to get them to leave to a club that he would profit from.
Oh I understand that but when he is being told by his own assistant manager that he can get more money by leaving it has to play on your mind
I don't disagree with you, but players will be told that all the time anyway, from Family, Friends, Agents, Media.
I seem to remember the line at the time being that he was taking bribes in relation to players coming to the club, which is possibly why he got some people defending him. I could be mis-remembering though.
