Commentators and other media keep going on about the Wembley pitch being bigger than White Hart Lane, and that this is a disadvantage to them. Am I missing something here? Surely as the home side they can make the size of the pitch whatever tyey like (within the laws of the game) What a miss by Moratta.
I think a bigger disadvantage is selling their most potent attacking full back from a system that has been successful, to a team that has finished below them of late
Even the smallest pitch allowable in the Premier League is still much bigger that the old White Heart Lane pitch. The old stadium was exempt from the Premier Leagues pitch dimension rules as it wasn't possible to make it any bigger. Chelsea are also exempt...
Well assuming the FA would let them they could i suppose make the pitch a bit narrower but the length of the pitch will be dictated by the goal post and doubt they would allow spurs to start messing about with them.
Unless the stadium is physically too small then the premier league dictates that the pitch must be the size of wembley's pitch so rather than them being at a disadvantage now they were actually gaining an advantage before by claiming their stadium was too small to have the required size of pitch.
Clubs that are exempt and have pitches too small are Palace, Liverpool, chelsea, Stoke, Burnley, Everton, Leicester and southampton. Huddersfield and Brighton have pitches that are actually bigger than the premier league allows. Not sure how they get away with that. Only 10 clubs have the correct sized pitch. Oakwell is the correct width for the premier league but is 5 metres too short but that would presumably be allowed as our pitch is the same size as Everton's.
I read something the other day about the U23 league which stated that the U23 team must play several games in the home ground. So, our U23s play several times on the main Oakwell pitch (to get used to appearing in front of the big stands, etc). I assume Spurs U23s will have to follow the same rules and play at least 3 times at Wembley this season.
I thought the rules of the game defined the maximum and minimum length and width of football pitches not the Premier League.
