Guaranteed Championship Football next Season with a Relegated Team or the same thing on merit with a Promoted Team. Or just the same outcome on more money!
Same outcome on more money is worst case scenario for him if he leaves. Thing is we won’t be able to match their wages and even if we could we would have to increase Stendel’s too so as far as I am concerned - he’s gone! Really disappointed as he comes across really well and it could de-rail what has been an excellent season.
Huddersfield are fecked. If he's any pride he'll stay with his buddy and see this job through. More money maybe, but the new manager and assistant are going to fail and have an embarrassing relegation on their CVs.
Don’t think it’s a fail or an embarrassment, they’re as good as down already. Real test will be next season.
Embarrassing? They’re punching above their weight to be in that division, and they’re already 10 points adrift. Relegation is hardly embarrassing, it’s more expected at this stage.
They've got 11 points from 22 or 23 games. They could go down with one of the lowest totals in premier league history. If it was us in the same boat, the word 'embarrassment' would be flying around this forum without doubt. The fact that they are punching above their weight is even more reason for Winkler not to go there for me.
Money talks, yes we could both be in the same division next season and he could have a relegation on his CV but if they are willing to pay him 2/3 times what he's on at Barnsley then he's off...
I wouldn’t use this board as a measuring tool. Having a couple of weeds around the side of the pitch is deemed embarrassing on here. He’s got the opportunity of working two divisions higher, albeit maybe only be temporarily, but no doubt for a lot more money. He doesn’t even have to relocate. Bit of a no-brainer, for me.
You sound like you'd be happy for him to go mate? I'd like to think he's got a bit more regard for my football club and what it has to offer moving forward. We'll see.
Why can’t we match any potential wages? Just give the management team a raise, we value them why not? It’s not like having a player on higher wages management area one off And here’s a thought, he’s only just arrived, things are going well he could just do the honourable thing and stay.
It’s not a tough decision really. But sadly for some of you, the fact that has progressed this far already indicates he’s already made that decision. There’s no way they’d bother if he wasn’t interested and there’s no way he didn’t know about it before any official approach to the club.
I'm not sure whether that's a dig at me or not, but I'm trying to put forward a case for why he might want to stay at Barnsley. I don't hold with the idea that Huddersfield and Brentford courting our staff is acceptable. I want better for us. Things change very quickly in football, and they might be in a higher division now with their parachute money, but it doesn't last forever.
I think even a potentially relegated premiership club has to be an attraction. The huge sums for parachute payments and the guarantee of being at Championship level has to be a huge reason to try it. If there is a very close friendship too, that helps the move. I generally think once someone has been given permission and had talks, its very rare the move doesn't happen. A huge loss if he chooses to go, but if the club have allowed him to talk, I couldn't blame him for taking up the opportunity at all. I just feel for Stendel. I think with his language skills and being away from his family so long, this could be a hammer blow for him. If Winkler does go, I really hope the club do their best to help Stendel and find ways for him to have his family support him a bit more.
At a guess he’s probably on 100k here Huddersfield offering him say 400k If we matched that then Stendels wage has to go up and all of a sudden we are 600k a year worse off. Would be a big gamble I would have thought. Reality is he is speaking to them which means more likely than not, the deal is done.
