Estabulo last night, busy from 6pm onwards. Surely the restaurants see the amount of people in their restaurants and walking about town that it may be worth doing big offers after August. It would have been dead in there pre-pandemic Mon-Weds, it cost us £45 for 2 adults and a kid they would have still made a decent profit on that.
Is that £45 to you but £75 to them with the government covering the £30 difference? They'd struggle to make any real profit at £45 to be honest mate. 50% off is such a punchy discount. Can definitely see a lot of them creating their own Monday to Wednesday offer for September though. It would be nice if town's could agree their own scheme so everyone was consistent with an agreed discount, but it doesn't work like that sadly.
They call you up a table at a time, theres tables around the buffet and they serve you. It slows things down a bit but folk need to be patient, like l told my missus. No change to the way the meat was served.
Normally £22 per adult around £5-£6 per kid, we only saved on the 1 soft drink for the kid so paid full price on a £7.50 cocktail, glass of wine and 2 beers. So overall there not much the government are funding on there. The point is that we wouldnt have gone out on a weds had there been no offers, like you say an offer for these quiet days would be a no brainer to fill the restaurants up a bit.
Sounds like a good way to do it. It’s a lovely place and quite reasonably priced even normally for the amount you get and the quality of food.
Still be £23 in cash going straight in to the till from the government. If that was taken off the restaurant they'd make less money than a half empty Saturday at full price. I know what you're saying though. It's definitely got people going out midweek when they'd normally be at home, so these places will need to get creative from 1st September.
Agreed, you can see more people around the place on an evening - the very thing the council are wanting. Good to see a lot of unused buildings being converted in accommodation as well. Looks like the apartments in Regent street are being lived in, these people will want to go out and eat somewhere.
Brilliant to have one in town, not many about and l believe Donnys just opened one. A tip for these places: No breakfast, light lunch, minimum salad when you get there and only start on the beers an hour in - that way you'll fit in £300 of meat. I only weigh 10 stone, I had that in rump last night.
Just had this drop in my inbox about how much this Eat Out To Help Out campaign is making a difference. Positive reading ........ until it ends, it rains, and everyone starts to stay in again (fingers crossed that doesn't happen). 27% of adults across GB have used the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme, with a further 32% suggesting that they intent to before the end of the month – with 39% of consumers who took advantage of it being first time visitors to the on-premise since it reopened
But the rest of the week passing trade apart is ******* dire. Its alright having a half full resturant 3 days a week... theres another 4 to go at.
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are just replacing the weekend. It's a good idea though, creating footfall is always a good thing. Maybe the govt could taper it off going into September and October rather than just finish at the end of August.
There’s quite a few around Yorkshire to be fair. Wakefield, Leeds, Harrogate, Donny, Beverley, and I think ones opening in Bradford soon. I do think the location of the one in town is a bit of a choice, I would’ve thought it would do better if it was closer to the other bars in town. There’s something similar opening in the Glassworks too next to Nando’s.
I'm not a tory supporter, but I think this is a good idea. August is normally a crap month for restaurants, unless you are in a tourist area. Credit where due.
How do you both know this? I'm talking nationally, not just a pocket of places you walk through or past. Weekends weren't exactly flying before the introduction of this, so it hasn't stolen from those days as there wasn't that much to steal. Did you see the part about 39% of people stating it was their first time visiting the On Trade since the restart? That's pubs, restaurants, and anywhere where you drink/eat on site rather than buy to take home. Some of the big companies are reporting that trading is close to flat vs. last year, or around the 85% mark. That's a positive story. But these are pubs that serve food, mainly in more residential areas, where tourist/workforce city centre pubs, or ones without any external space, or having a tough time as you'd expect.
How many towns and cities are there in Yorkshire? Theres six restaurants in the whole of Yorkshire. The one next to Nandos is the guy who opened 8oz burger.
I live in the town centre. I drink coffee with a few restaurant owners. Essentially theyve had to strip at least a 3rd of the covers out to meet 'social distancing' guidelines in some places. As a minimum. They are busy three days a week now. Outside of a few places there is very little weekend food sales. The Italian on Dodworth road from what I was told was thinking of not bothering opening for the weekend as its not worth the money. Better hope when this scheme ends people have the same desire to go out.
We went to pinnoccios last night, the manager said business was good Monday to Wednesday as expected but weekend bookings were poor in comparison to this time last year , also as expected. It's the old sticking plaster experiment.
Pinnoccios has lost a 1/3 of its tables. It wasnt half full when i went past. Nor was Grill or Pasha. Or One Momento. Or Favella. Or Falco Lounge. Or Market Kitchen. Or Istanbul.
