Just something I've picked up on.

Reading a thread again the other night or whenever it was posted. Phenix didn't get a chance in x y or z's opinion. Straight on that people are saying well he must not have performed in training.

Some players will train at a good level, some won't. Some will be the best player on the squad list Monday to Friday but struggle in matches. Some players won't train that well. Some players won't look that good in the u23's/ reserves.

I read about lots of players that didn't play well training in different sports and in some cases looked awful in training. Ricardo Carvalho's often named the worst trainer that some footballers have seen. I think Gary Neville was another.

The players you mention were all top professionals not a lad from conference... If your not training well given the chance to step up like that you don't deserve to be playing.

Phenix was a bit different anyway wasn't he? I thought he had a long running medical problem that slowed any progress.

I don't understand, what are you saying - that we shouldn't have sold Phenix, or that we should have given him a run in the team even if he was crap in training?

    Yep, thats a good point.

The difference is though, that the players you have mentioned will have had to, at some point, shown the management at their clubs that they were good enough during training. Once established in the team, then the lack of effort in training can be over looked.

Also, When the likes of Neville came through the ranks, there was a number of fairly competitive reserve leagues running, where he had a chance to show that he could cut it in senior football. Phenix(and many of todays players), didn't have that, so the only places the coaching team could see what he had to offer was in training and if he wasn't much cop there, then you can't blame the management for not playing him...

I'm not saying that Mike Phenix should have played more. I'm using that name from a post this past few day to name the point.

Regardless of who it is.... Any player we sign at the minute from lower leagues ought to be giving it everything to get in the team and improve not only for barnsleys sake but their own career prospects.

I don't think players we sign aren't training hard enough I think they just don't make the grade required at the level we are playing and move on which is fine.

    Yes - that's just what I thought.
Has Hemsie been to training today and seen something?

It was me that posted that Phenix and Gooda had both featured for non-league teams on Tuesday night and all I said was that they obviously weren't good enough to break through to the first team, but I wished them well in their future careers.

I'm pleased to see that they have both found decent clubs (Salford City and Harrogate Town).

So, I'll repeat the question just posed by others. What exactly IS your point?

I made the point above that it wasn't all about that post you made but about posts that have been made. The details in the post i've seen.

it to clarify or to made concrete clear. It wasn't about your post but about my feelings on something.

This must be a "subtle" dig at Hecky for leaving someone out but who? Mallan? Fryers?

I hope Mike Phenix is well and healthy. A truly cruel horrible disease that is incredibly debilitating. At first glance you think it should be simple to work through, but having seen it at close quarters with 2 people, plus having done some volunteering at events for those suffering from it, I can tell you its purely evil.

I'm just making posts that I feel are interesting for others to debate. Just seen a few mention this recently so thought well what about this opinion.

Not saying your not. Just saying that your past posting "style" means people will jump to conclusions.

I dont think anyone has a clue what point u are trying to make. You have been asked half a dozen times in this, currently, short thread , but have ignored all requests to clarify what you're on about.
