Trump and Climate change.

    Donald J is throwing his support behind the US Coal industry and in support ( because of its effects on Climate change) is talking of pulling the States out of the Paris agreement.

    Once met Jeremy Corbyns brother Piers on one of my many visits to meet politicians in Westminster.
    Sat in on one of his talks. Like Trump he argues that Climate change is a "con" promoted by people with vested interest. Is he/ Trump justified in thinking that way I wonder.?

    Given they are predicting shortages in the supply of gas and we could become mass importers within
    15-20 years and that we are sitting on top of 650 years supply of coal was the policy to scrap coal in our energy mix the right one .?

    If JC did become PM if investment could be found to fund pits and we can harness Clean Coal technology ( Carbon scrubbing plants) influenced by Piers I wonder could Coal make a come back or would it meet the same resistance as fracking.?

    Donald J Trump has just announced the USA's intention to leave the Paris Climate Change agreement.
    Because India and China burn fossil fuel he says they are stealing Americas lunch.!
    Wonder if Cantona is one of his script writers.?

    There's always been climate change (we've had Ice Ages FFS) so I think there is a debate as to whether it's man-made or not.

    The environmentalists won't accept this though and there are vested interests involved on both sides of the argument.

    No one denies it has always happened the issue is it being exacerbated (or not) by human activity.

    Isn't Corbyn's brother in agreement with Trump re: climate change.

    This isn't a dig at Jezza before the insults start. I'm just sure I heard an interview with him and his views were very much in the denial category.

    I was invited to Piers Corbyns speech on Climate Change at the Queen Elizabeth Hall across from Westminster Abbey as a representative of my former employers.
    Leading members of DECC were there as were many politicians from all sides of the political divide.
    His views re- that Climate Change is a massive " con" were challenged but he put forward scientific evidence and to my mind
    an extremely plausible arguement as to why he held the views that he did.

    I laughed at one part of his speech when asked about future energy prices. There are loads of people who make a fortune out of trying to predict future trends when in reality due to unknown future World events no one has a " dolly blue" as to what will happen.

    He shrugged his shoulders and said " in my opinion they could do one of three things. They could go up, there again they might go down or they could stay where they are now."! I would imagine that Piers would view Trump as an ally in his opposition to the Green warriors and will be insistent that climate change is still fictitious. ( see link below from 2016)

    And Theresa May has refused to sign the joint statement with Germany, Italy and France on Trump's decision to pull out of the Paris agreement.

    For the record, I have no idea what is the right or wrong side on climate change. I'd guess we aren't helping though. We can't be, surely?

    However, I'd still advocate re-opening the mines. We import coal now don't we?

    Reasons that I'm against reopening mines.

    1. They're dangerous
    2. We all know about the long term health implications of working in mines.
    3. It is a finite fuel.
    4. Mines are a blight on the countryside
    5. We are only importing coal because we closed mines without bothering to invest in renewable alternatives.
    6. We're a bloody island surrounded by water (see 5)
