Went to my first acid night around 88 to hard times in huddy. Then from 90-3 ish came the glory days. Shelleys, sequins, basics, after dark and the orbit. Remember being in the bogs at the orbit and a bloke who was wearing a snorkel mask had his head in a sink full of water fully submersed blowing bubbles: this was nothing out of the ordinary. Amazing nights, no ******** dress codes and anything goes. But then it all changed. The ministry of sound et al commercialised the culture and it was lost to me. I stopped going for a year then went to the love to be at sheffield in 95. This experience was completely and utterly anathema to what i had experienced before. I last went to an "old skool house"night last year and it was full of youngen's pissed and coked up. Love the music and the great memories. Good to hear you're doing well and i wish you all the best mate.
Although our nights aren't old skool they have an old skool vibe. The average age is between 35-40 and its just a brilliant atmosphere. I'll dig out a video Digweed did last year live on his page. No phones in sight. Just how it should be.
Would've loved to have been around in them days, can't recreate that. Although im glad i just missed the phone generation. Wouldve caused an instant downer for me if everyone was snapchating and the likes rather than being ingrossed in the music and the moment.
