Agree. If it wasn’t for the pen appeal we should have had we had never been in that game. Wake up call for all those fans who thought we might challenge this season. Think we will see a few results like this. We don’t dominate games and if we don’t score first we will lose.
I knew we’d struggle tonight. We invite too much pressure and rely too heavily on teams not being able to convert chances. It works against poorer opposition, but we need to be able to play differently against these teams. I think we’ll struggle on Saturday too.
I disagree, whilst I'm not going to argue we played particularly well, we should have had a penalty and I don't recall Walton saving much. Thought tactics were right and a manager can't legislate for set piece goals. Also hate to drag out this old chestnut but look at the money Brentford have spent on players/wages compared to us.
We were outplayed by a team who showed more skill and nouse on the ball. I usually go on about how we lack talent up front. But it was by no means just that tonight. We were just second in every department.
We literally couldn’t string two passes together and our lack of pace upfront is a problem but after saying all that penalties don’t come more stone wall than that.
I can't agree with the op. they had long spells in possession ably assisted by fouling everybody. Especially out wide to win corners which seems their main tactic. We stayed in the game and had it not been for a crap/bent ref we'd have had a point.
It will happen that way all season. Never expected us to win every game but as long as we win enough not to be in the relegation zone this season, that will do for me. We ve a young team, form the bits I saw Styles looked less composed today, they're going to be more inconsistent.
again, not to be defeatist but also, probably most importantly, budget. I get you can defeat the odds sometimes (saturday for example) but not always.
That's spot on. It's rarely a level playing field for us in this division, when we run on the pitch. Despite having trilionaire owners.
Brentford are a decent side. It was always going to be a big ask, but I thought we gave a good account of ourselves. Had it not been for an appalling refereeing blunder, we would have taken a point. Lacking a bit in midfield, with both Mowatt and James looking tired long before they were subbed. Credit the lads for their work rate, though, it can't be easy after all the energy burned up on Saturday. Time to freshen things up a bit, maybe? Victor in for Chaplin?
If we hadn’t had that penalty appeal turned down and we’d equalised and got a point I would’ve been saying it would’ve been a great point considering we were second best in every dept all game. However, because we were robbed of that penalty I’m disappointed we lost. Crazy innit?
Way I look at it is, how many times have we lost games we deserved to win, often to some crappy decision. We persevered and earned a penalty, so no we didn't get what we deserved.
