How does a new manager know what we need to improve when he's not seen us kick a ball?

Just curious as when a new manager comes into a new club and specially from another country, how can he identify where the improvements need to be made?

As stated by GG the head coach informs the board of the positions hand the team gives him a list to chose from. In our case now he would at least have to take training then friendly games to know what we need and where we need it

He’ll know because he’ll be up to the eyes in DVD’s that the club has sent him of every single game we played last season plus anything recorded during training, not to mention all the pro zone stats that we’ll have for every player at the club. You’d only have to watch a handful before you’d see recurring themes and patterns in where we are weakest and what we need to strengthen at.

I might be wrong but I feel sure our new coaching team will be spending hours going over the footage of last seasons matches & will be doing their homework , I am not suggesting that this replaces working with the players in the flesh but I am pretty sure they will have done plenty of research on our squad & will have a good grounding on individuals abilities , strengths , faults etc

All the analysts and stats available in both matches and training will be invaluable and will give a clear insight into the players approach and fitness backed up by a dossier on each player kept by club and videos he will know there performance ability inside out. The only bit he won’t know is if he thinks he can motivate an individual as a person.

Plus I would imagine he already has an idea of what he wants from each position from his previous playing and managing experience. I would imagine he’s also seen players that he fancies within the parameters of our player remit. He will also already be working behind the scenes to make his mind up so I don’t think he’ll be going in as cold as some are making out.

I think the less fit members of the squad will need to up their game, or ship out.
We may take offers from championship clubs for one or two of the players we would have liked to keep, if the money is right.
If half a dozen leave, then I'd expect a bit of quality in, especially CM role & another striker with pace, if Bradshaw & Thiam go.
I can't see either of them fitting the style of high pressing & one up front that Strendel favours. Could be time for one of our number 10's
to put a shift in (Moncur / Mallan) & hold down a regular place. Moncur only has a season left, so may motivate him to do so.

I would keep them both , Davies had a poor second half of the season but was excellent when we got promoted , if he can regain his confidence then we have a good proven keeper at this level , Fryers has the pedigree & surely this should come through in division one

I would say at least 8 players.
    Goalkeepers - 2
    Defensive midfielders - 2
Wingers - 2. Maybe more if Hedges and Isgrove are injury prone.
    Strikers - 2

It’s worth remembering that all the loan players have left the club and there are clear gaps now in the squad.

I wonder if Stendels an old school coach regarding pre season training and the players don’t see a football for the first week it’s just running and more running. Be a shock to some.

I used to start dreading preseason training as soon as the current season finished. The first 2 sessions used to make me want to openly weep

We've got a good number of players who already performed well or are capable of performing well in League One. They just need to be motivated right and have a winning mentality drilled into them.
If the head coach doesn't begin by getting on his hands and knees, rubbing up against their legs and purring we should have a decent head start.

Half an hour on BBS will be enough to show him what's needed.

Or think, ****** to that, we'll wing it and either get lucky or get found out. Either way, two year contract, we can't lose.
