because we can't compete with some of them financially.

Who can't we compete with financially in League One?

    Blackburn?
    Wigan?
    Pompey?
    Bradford?

Dare I say Fleetwood and Oxford?

    Any others?

We were reportedly interested in Dominic Samuel. He signed for Blackburn, this week.

It's not about not being able to compete financially, it's about not wanting to give players of a certain standard over inflated wages.

Most players now want 'funny money' because they know there is plenty about.

The fact that we can't compete financially with some clubs in League 1 is a poor reflection on them not us.

We're willing to pay a player what we think they're worth. It's up to the player to buy into our philosophy then.

Its not a question of us not being able to compete financially. As stated above, its a case of us not paying over the odds. More fool the other clubs if you ask me.

Conor McALeny. Yeah I heard that too, apparently took the easy option.

Gauthier said that a player spoke with the club but chose the "easy option", the same week that McAleny went to Fleetwood.

Make of that what you will, whether he was offered guaranteed first team football at Fleetwood and we wanted him to fight for his place, or whether they offered him more money, or whether location wise, he was settled nearer to home and didn't want to up sticks. There could be many reasons why choosing Fleetwood is seen as the easy option I suppose. Hecky has made it clear that he only wants players who buy into our philosophy.

Some players will go for the easier option, and some will want to prove themselves at the higher level, and get a move away at a later date.

Some players will sign for big fish in a small sea in hope of promotion glory from league one.

We've signed quite a few of the former, let the latter enjoy their trips to fleetwood, Rochdale, Oldham and Swindon etc.

I don't think we have missed a major target if Samuels is one of them to be honest. He fitted our bill in some ways, but, if we are pursuing Tyler Roberts, Joe Williams, Harry Wilson and Ash Fletcher, any two/three of those would also do. Prudence by the club in my opinion. If we are looking at permanent signings, why compromise longer term financial stability by paying over the odds, which might come back to bite us in a couple of years' time?

I've said it before, but last season Bolton, who were, and still are a complete basket case of a club financially blew us out of the water. So it wouldn't surprise me in the least to find out other League One clubs have done the same this year too...

Am I getting this wrong - we knew all this was likely to happen and that is why the club opted to appoint a French CEO - that would allow the club to access talent from the continent.

    What happened?
Why arnt we seeing any players from the continent being brought in?

One million spent on the continent will get a better quality player than a million spent in the overheated English leagues.

When premier league team supporters talk like this about relegated teams enjoying their trips to Barnsley people lose their **** and pull out that stupid "teams like Barnsley" thing but people really regularly talk like this about other teams.

I don't think they appointed him in the hope that we'd bring players in from abroad. I'd like to think he was brought in because he was the best man for the job.

Problem is, everyone says "teams like barnsley" from the premier league down. I've seen it on wigans forum and even on Oldham and wallsalls. Oxford tried to condescend to us prior to the jpt final.

I'm not one for looking down my nose at other clubs BUT it's a fact that it's got to be a better experience for a player visiting the vast majority of championship stadiums than the ones I mentioned, amongst others.

I think we need to show patience. Some of the deals whether they involve a
Senegalese striker or a full back from an EFL Club take time.
I'm still hopeful there's more to come besides Joe Williams this week.
