Does any body know? In the past we've had success with player managers (Clarke, Hunter) we've had success with rookie managers (Wilson, Ritchie). We've struggled with experience managers (Machin,Hart, Wilson). So where are we to go?.I bet Bolton were delighted when they appointed Lennon and Forest likewise with Freeman,I bet if they could they'd see the back of them both.If the board said to me "right its your choice who would you go for" hand on heart I would have to say "I haven't got a clue" I'm praying for a victory on Saturday and next Tuesday in the hope it can kick start our season. For all of our bad run we're still not cast adrift and I do believe we have some good players here who with a bit more guidance on the pitch could go on to having a decent enough campaign.
The perfect manager is someone who never loses, says only nice things in the media, and doesn't wear silly clothes.
The only issue I see is if we got a couple of wins or even won one then lost the next everyone's going to be back on his case again. I really can't see anything changing in that regard unless we got on a 10 game unbeaten run.
Maybe ought to do wi Diamonds Mr Dubai yes. Sorting out the dross at Oakwell may prove a tad harder! Having said that nowt harder on this Earth than a Diamond!!
Eddie Howe is pretty good and always comes across really well in interviews. I'd say last season with Bournemouth in the Championship was as near to a perfect season you could hope for. Unfortunately injuries have wrecked their chances this season of giving the Premiership a good go. Hope they stick with him - I'm sure they're not daft enough to let him go under the circumstances.
We struggled under Machin? Saved us from almost certain relegation then took us to ten minutes from the play offs the next season. I'd love this clown to struggle like that.
Machin was one of the best managers we've had in my time watching us. Knew how to grind out results when we were struggling, and played some cracking football at times as well. His dealings in the transfer market were also very astute until he was given some cash, then it all went a bit pear shaped. Having said that, some of the key players in our promotion season were either Machin signings or players that came through the system under him (Liddell, Moses, Eaden, Watson). On the other hand he made a few absolute bloopers, such as releasing Futcher and Baker when they clearly had a few good seasons left in them.
I remember him getting boo'ed on to the pitch against Southend I think.A crowd of just over 3k that day if I remember correctly.
Exactly this. If it hadn't been for Dean Wilkins scoring late for Brighton we'd have been in the playoffs and I would have fancied our chances that season.
Somebody who can identify tactics that will end with the ball in the opposition goal, and can assemble players capable of fulfilling those roles. Players like Matty Appleby and Neil Thompson and Clint Marcelle were not the most talented, but they did some things very well and we played to their strengths.
