Been watching the team since Jim Iley. That was the worst I've ever seen.

    Not according to our Manager

Really good in the First Half?

Is this some new hip meaning of the word Good I am not aware of. Like if Sick means good. Now good means Sick (original meaning)

It wasn't so much the worst, as it was pointless.

Scenically, tactically, developmentally, both objectively and subjectively, painfully and uncomfortably.

    And of course literally.

    Pointless

I know what I saw & it was sick in the old sense of the word. In the Iley days we had footballers, like Ally Millar. No one one the park like him today. Not even close.

For those of us who are a bit younger, how many Ileys would you get to a Hill?

That's such a sick post I nearly threw up.

We really spewed and chundered our way through a technicoloured yawn of a first half. It was that nauseous.

    Second half we s h a t out what we'd got left.

First half was better than the 2nd half for sure, we did pass the ball better, albeit sideways & backwards most of the time, but there were a few times the players linked up well, but the final ball was always lacking.
    2nd half we were turgid.

His comments in the chronicle have absolutely no truth to them whatsoever. There's putting spin on something and then there's outright lying

Gives you an idea of how he wants the team to play.

We did keep the ball for long periods in the first half. Less so as the half wore on and as Lincoln realised they didn't have to sit so deep and that we were just as vulnerable at the back as we were impotent up front. But for the first half hour we had all the possession. We didn't do anything with it and the only chance went to Lincoln who hit the post when they should have scored, but all that possession pleased our manager.

For me, watching us pass the ball across the back three, then across the midfield, then back to the defence before eventually giving it to Martin to be out muscled was as uninspiring as I've ever seen us. But I will admit that the sideways and backwards passing was much more accurate than on Saturday when we simply lumped it forward and out of play.

On Saturday Duff stated in his full time interview that the players had not done as he asked. No such complaints from him yesterday. He was happy with our passing. That slow, methodical approach that got us nowhere is how he wants us to play.

*Edit - FWIW I can accept that the players didn't follow Duff's instructions on Saturday. There's no way he wanted us to play like they did. I also accept that keeping the ball is much better than losing it and that a sideways pass to a Barnsley player is infinitely better than a hopeful punt to the opposition. But the speed, or lack of it, at which we build our attacks isn't just boring to watch, it makes it very difficult to score. If we allow the opposition time to get everyone behind the ball, everyone organised and all our attacking options double marked, it doesn't matter how accurate the player delivering the final ball is, it's always going to look bad as he has nothing to aim at.

I understand if we have the ball....our opponents don't. Unfortunately our play is too slow and laborious and the teams we play can sit in and just watch us for a a bit.
There is a definitive lack of urgency and accuracy in our play and this has effected confidence (coz we keep losing). The players have loads of effort but there's no productive end game. I look at Benson and Kane who I believe are decent players at this level and rarely do they play forward positive passes, the annoyance is that most of the time they are in space and have time to do something more positive.

The problem is that attempting to get 46 nil nil draws by passing the ball across the defence for 90 minutes will only ever see you finish at one end of the table

Worrying isn’t it. Reminded me of some of the dross we got to watch under Keith Hill

What was really frustrating was when we did break we almost always then stopped and passed the ball back losing all momentum and giving Lincoln time to regroup

We even had a throwin by the corner flag that went all the way back to Collins for us to build from the back

It’s too slow and ponderous and probably why when we concede it’s game over

Trouble is since we lost Thomas we have no one prepared to run at the opposition and without Williams we are too slow at the back. But the tactic of slow steady buildups isn’t working. The reason we haven’t scored in over 4 games isn’t our strikers are missing good chances. We just don’t create them

Poor as we were last night... the Morecambe game was worse. That was one of the worst I've seen. Maybe even worse than last season.... or maybe not

Seems to me, judging by his comments and folk on here, t'owld Duffy is happy with a kind of Southgate approach?

Ally Millar … what a player in the old fashioned sense !
Is he still around Barnsley ?
Used to see him at games quite a few years ago ( well he can’t have a double surely )

I can remember Ally Millar walking up the ground with his kit in a carrier bag lol. He was joking and laughing with the fans along the way.
    How times change!

He used to live in a flat on Park Road near entrance to Locke Park, just round corner from where I lived as a kid.
Used to see him knocking around the area regularly.
Not very mobile but had a wand of a left foot.

I was surprised by Duff's assessment of this game, after he previously strongly criticised the performance at home to Exeter. The Lincoln game was certainly no better from us, in my opinion. I found it odd that his opinion on the game was so much at odds with that of us fans, when he had called out low quality, uninspiring performances before. I find it hard to believe that he really did think that we played well in the first half.

I liked Millar a lot. He was an entertainer. He displayed superb ball control and excellent dribbling skills. His lack of pace let him down. If he had had that too, he wouldn't have been playing for us.
