The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

    Sam Winnall take note.

On the face of it a shocking stat, but with our current form and league position, it should reassure the doubters that this club is bigger than any or all of the players in the squad. We have a system. It works. Players slot into it. They come, they go, the club remains.

All still here are out of contract in the summer too aside from Hammill and Townsend (how on earth did we give him such a lengthy contract in comparison to the others?)... though we have an option to trigger an extra year on Davies, which we must surely do as a minimum.

I really think we're going to completely lose the spine of this amazing team in such a short period of time.

The sad thing is, losing Conor especially, it's likely to break the unity of the group and mean players are more likely to look elsewhere.

Such a pity.... but thats football until some sanity comes into the game... if it ever happens.

We were never going to keep the likes of Fletcher and Isgrove so it's about right that this squad should have been decimated. Lots of names in there just not good enough for our team now (eg Nyatanga, McCourt, Toney and, of course, Townsend although we've still got him).

Football is a human recycling process. Sometimes you are disposing of absolute rubbish. Sometimes there is a diamond in there, so you hope that you spot it and get it auctioned off at Sothebys or somewhere (slipping into Del and Rodney mode of course :))

It's an interesting stat but vastly overblown in my view as an attempt to play down the impact of the 2 recent departures, I fear wrongly, particular in the case of our leader and inspiration, Conor.

Of the 9 that went in the summer, 5 were loans that have been replaced by, erm, loans and the 4 owned players that 'left' did so in a manner which the club controlled.
