Why does the postman always come much earlier on a Saturday?

    I've always wondered that. Why is he always about 5 hours earlier in a Saturday than the rest of the week?

    As mi fatha allus used to say 'it's fill off and **** off' - which translated means:

    seeing as it's the last working shift of the week the sooner one finishes the sooner one can go home

    Speaking from past experience the reason was that there was never much post on a Saturday and everyone's in a rush to get finished. However, with the new set up post should arrive at a similar time as posties have to return to the office anyway and work until finishing time. I.e. cant just go straight home and finish early. Usual time posting used to be 10-2. However on Sats I'd often be out 9-12.

    My post usually comes around 2pm Monday to Friday and 9am on Saturdays. At my previous house it was around 10an Saturdays and 3pm Monday to Friday.

    Any idea why there is less post on a Saturday? Logically wouldn't Monday be the quietest day as businesses send post out Monday to Friday (delivery Tuesday to Saturday)?

    I've been losing sleep over this conundrum for years. My post arrives about 9:30am on a Saturday, but at about 12:30pm on a week day.

    No idea. There was no real science to it but weds was usually the heaviest day. And cant really explain why posting times would be that different unless you have a different postie at weekends who does the route a different way.

    I try to take a holistic approach to problem solving. Our failure to deliver at 3pm on the pitch could in some way be connected to the early delivery of my mail on a saturday. I'm hoping at the next press conference Jose could shed some light on this.
