Spent two fantastic weeks in Tunisia about 18 years ago. Great weather, friendly people, great history (El Djem and Carthage), great film locations (Star Wars, Life of Brian and English Patient). I would be more nervous of going back now, which is a real shame as it really is a great place to visit, but that is a problem throughout the Muslim world - and much of it is of western governments making.

Wouldn't you need the number of tourists visiting as well? Just incase you want to make it a fair stat.

I went to Turkey last summer and NY at Christmas, felt safe in both.

It's just another blame/claim situation. The families may still be grieving but it doesn't stop some of them wondering how they can cash in. Responsibility is always someone else's problem not yours.

Been to 'muslim' countries quite a bit - but more recently as a dad in 2015 to turkey, and I'm going to hurghada, Egypt, later this year. Three kids between 9 and 2.

Wouldn't go to sharm, purely because of the airport situation and government advice.

But to avoid all Muslim governed countries would be absolutely ridiculous.

I'm sure there will be a stat that will say I'm several thousand times more likely to be killed driving to the airport than be killed in a terrorist incident in Egypt.

I have found people working in the hotels and locals (who fair enough want your money) to all be more than friendly and hugely accommodating.

I went to Crete last year, they were nice enough but they did 'just enough' and no more. They weren't that bothered. Maybe the Turkish etc feel they have more to prove, but I've holidayed there twice and never felt insecure.

I have no fears over this summer either. I worry more driving home from work (Leeds) when the M621 is shut and I end up in Beeston. Not because it has a lot of muslims, because it has a lot of dickheads.

According to the Pew Research Centre, 56% of Muslims in Tunisia believe Sharia should be the law of the land, and 44% of those (so around a quarter of the Muslim population) believe that the penalty for adultery should be stoning. I can't imagine going on holiday anywhere where 1 in 4 people think it's acceptable to throw rocks at somebody's head.

The article talks about deaths abroad, not risk of being killed. Spain is high due to elderly Brits living out there.

There has. And there will be other cases. However i dont think theyll get the same level of cover up and denial those from the asian community recieved from the authorities. Do you?

What with 7/8 year olds? Doubt it.

This study of internet search terms pretty much confirmed the problem:

Notice that popular tourist spots Turkey and Egypt figure heavily.

Personally id be avoiding the countries that have provided the highest number of fighters for IS. Both turkey and tunisa are in the top five for this.
With respect to the OP its not just muslim countries that produce these fighters. Theres a reported 5000 from western europe who have gone to join and fight for IS.
Over two thirds, 3700 come from just 4 countries. Any guesses?

I went to Tunisia in the mid 80s pretty much the same place that these killings on the beach took place , wouldn't go there now or any other countries of this ilk, but then again at the minute I wouldn't go to France or Germany or Belgique etc. Went to America couple of weeks ago , filled esta in 10 mins , landed in Atlanta 30 mins through customs onto Tampa , no probs

Not bad for a guess. Not sure which one is wrong, but the other will probably be Denmark, France or Holland.

Hurghada is worse than Sharm, in my experience anyway. Loved Sharm and the Russians spoilt Hurghada and I didnt like the airport. I find the problem with a lot of holiday places is that the Brits are cnuts !!
