The silence is deafening with a zero response from Wigan fans so far on Twitter though. https://threeamigoswigan.com/2020/0...t-not-be-such-a-bad-thing-for-wigan-athletic/
That tweet that's quoted at the start of that article: "what’s the actual point in supporting a club ‘within its means’?" Football's f*cked.
"Big Fella" on there sounds a right plastic. " I've supported them 15 years", ah right, since they hit the Prem then. "What's the point of supporting a club within their means, Prem is where we belong". He needs to **** off to Utd or Citeh with the other glories. U support a team cos u have no choice. It's in the blood, u were born there, or you were formed there, or its family, it's history. U can't pick n choose and drop it when times are bad. Knob.
Whoever wrote that piece is spot on. They are the first of a few clubs who " on paper" are truly in a real mess. They shouldn't really be worrying what League they are going to be in, but whether they will have a football club in Wigan over the coming years.
In the thread with the Barnsley fan one of them quotes that Barnsley have got nothing but the year in the prem while we’ve got our FA cup win . PS Their rivalry is with Leeds Rhinos and Hull KR
Imo I think his point is he thinks we havnt won the FA cup and have only the one year in the prem and that amounts to all we have to our history .
I think we have the potential to be a Premier League club in the ilk of a West Brom, Burnley or Fulham. Not top notch but middle of the road. I hope last season and the Covid-19 pandemic is to become a watershed moment in our history. A history that has been robbed by the authorities down the years.
Too many people think running a football club is like playing a computer game with a cheat code and infinite amounts of money can be chucked at a club without any implications.
But the fact is, they didn't spend within their means last few years and now these are the consequences. Also would he be prepared to pay (and all other supporters) 4-5 times more than they do now to increase their ‘within their means’ to meet his ambition. A lot of fans want clubs to spend more but only if its coming from someone else's pocket. All clubs have these kinds of ignorant ‘fans’ even us.
