Bad decision in my opinion. Hecky often preaches players have to earn their place. Williams should have had to earn his place back. Surely Mallan not only earned his place in the side but also deserved to keep it. He’s been our biggest threat in terms of creating chances and he’s also proved he’s capable of playing in a two. I wasn’t there today so I don’t know how Williams played, no doubt he has been one of our better players this season but to come straight back in the side for a form player and attacking threat is poor. He’s not made many mistakes Hecky but the 5-3-2 at Villa and dropping of Mallan today aren’t great.
We were very tidy but utterly predictable and lacking in spark. Never looked like scoring apart from a chance McBurnie did really well to tee up for Moncur, whose shot was deflected over the bar. Unfortunate, but if we'd shown even a modicum of creativity before that we'd surely have rescued a point.
All true. Williams should not have been allowed to walk back into the side, especially alongside Gardner. There is not enough creativity in that central pairing. Hopefully Knasmullner (or Mallan) will dislodge one of them next week.
How many chances has Mallan created so far? I’m struggling to recall this plethora of chances he’s made.
