I think he could be the difference in the last few games but feel he’s trying too hard and seems to be putting it on himself to do the business. I’ve seen him drop deeper and deeper trying to win the ball and starting us off attacking when he should be in the box where he’s most dangerous and most needed.
It's also a sign that a striker has lost his confidence. They move into areas they can't affect the game to avoid missing chances or through fear of missing sitters.
He's scored in his last two games. Not sure he has shown signs of lacking confidence. More that he's going deep to try and get involved with play and make something happen.
Thought it was a case of not wanting to sit between the two centre halfs... Don't think he's hiding at all mate..
It was a piece I saw Alan Shearer and Ian Wright doing on match of the day about strikers I just thought something was amiss with him that's all. I know he scored against Coventry but he stuck one over the bar in that game that didn't look like him. Although his goal was well taken. Call me old fashioned but I agree with Shearer and Wright. I like to see strikers in the central area of the box or outside the box. No further wide than the width of the 18 yard box.
Probably wrong about that to be honest. Maybe a lack of confidence in his team mates supplying him with chances. In the long term not good. Causes players to snatch at what opportunities are coming their way.
Good strikers make good movement.Dropping deep pulls defenders out of position and Woodrow is very good at that.
Moore does the same thing, going out wide & dropping deep, so presume that is what DS wants, to make space for other runners from midfield. I think the loss of Dougall is more critical, as Mowatt & McGeehan have more freedom to run into those spaces, if they know Kenny is covering them.
Not strictly true the goal against Coventry he was out of the box for the build up but in the box to finish it.All good strikers have good movement and Woodrow is a very good striker.
I think that's a fair assessment of his abilities, old mate, alongside his goalscoring. If we can exploit this movement better, midfielders running from deep, then it provides the team with other strengths to compensate for the loss of Moore.
I think Mowatt needs to gamble more. No way on this earth is he a defensive midfielder. Whilst he was at Leeds he didn't play like that.
I've never understood this clamour for strikers to just stand in the six yard box.Do that and they'll get marked all day drop deep and get in the box when it matters.
Mowett and McGeehan tend to switch round in games if one goes forward the other one sits.By and by its worked quite well this season.
So do I.. but up on his own, wi two big centre halfs, I feel its more of a plant B so maybe a chance to ghost in.. Just my reading..
