Got one or two new bits re takeover... https://twitter.com/WestStandBogs?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^author
If the consortium are genuine about football, this should make no difference. Council could easily solve any problems by giving them a 999 year lease, and didn't they go after Hull, who have no land assets?
As I understand it they are "buying" the club as a business venture so the ownership of the ground isn't that relevant. They buy 85% of PC's shareholding and leave him & BMBC as 50/50 owners of Oakwell which ensures that Barnsley FC has a secure home as is now the case. Then if we do move to a new "Flat-Pack" Stadium built by the new owners (which I personally hope never happens), PC or ,god forbid, his estate, can sell the 50% back to the Council or whoever and the land is sold for development. Or is that too logical?
Ken Booth retained Millmoor and has now had a redundant football stadium on his hands for several years. Perhaps we'll end up with the 'Oakland Stadium' at Dod'eth!
I think you could still take over BFC without owning the land. I understand the Council's and Cryne Family's position, they wish to protect the short to medium term existence of the club.I think the business model of the new owners would prefer not to take on the expensive ownership and maintenance of the land and stadium, until they were regularly making a profit. Also,it gives them a PR link to the town, which in American sport is important.
If what's been said actually happens I can see a new ground being a possibility. If you're spending 20 million pounds ideally you'd want to be in full control of the stadium and surrounding land without having the local council to answer to. Maybe you are jesting but one day we could be moved away from Oakwell for this exact reason and the council and Cryne family could end up with an empty Oakwell no longer needed on their hands.
