Root and Bairstow desperately need a rest after hectic winter/summers. They’ve also got mega busy winters coming up. I’d fully expect that neither player wanted to play in this game and rightly so. I can’t even think of the third player you’re talking about?
it's always been the case, maybe we just think it's unfair but sure the england set up allow certain players for a reason, rest or fitness 60/7 and struggling for the follow on now
Bairstow and Malan had a rest from the 5th test being cancelled and then both pulled out of the IPL. They could have played one or two matches for their county. Root is slightly different because he doesn't bother with the IPL anyway.
Truly dismal at the moment Yorkshire. Much is made of the bright future/talent coming through but what about now? We should be doing better with the players available over the years but it’s just a litany of failure in all forms of the game, year after year. Since Gillespie jumped ship the management has been poor, and that’s an understatement.
Rinse and repeat I'm afraid, too many people with jobs based on who they are and who they know and not on how good they are.
That leg-side boundary looks about 10ft from the wicket. On a separate note, Essex scored 170 in their 1st innings and won by an innings and 44 runs. Game over in 1 day + 30 mins.
Well it’s the last game and Lyth finally finds his early season form. Too late Adam lad. Far too late
The other distraction is the IPL which has already begun. For years the priority of the county side has come behind other considerations. It now comes after the IPL, the 100, the 20:20, all International games. This year the 50:50 seemed to come behind the county game. The county side is reduced to a nursery for players for other competitions. If you bought a season ticket for a football side only to be told that other sides had prior call on all your best players you’d want your money back. The economics of running a county side is extremely precarious. The average county game is sparsely attended by a crowd of mainly retirees. The amount they pay cannot sustain the club. The 4 day game is on its last legs. My own preference is for the 50 over one day game, but even that is too long for most people who want something nearer the duration of a football match. None of that excuses the Yorkshire performance today in the first innings.
