But why the sudden excitement over this signing and none of the others?

That's a bit of a tough read. Zinedine Zidane, Zeki Fryers and Ethan Pinnock all mentioned in the same post.

Just explain to your readers why you've spunked more over Zeki than the other 5. Is it because his roots are with a BIG club?

If you are saying it is because 'he just wants to play football' then I'm pretty sure that applies to the other 5 too. So can you enthuse over them a bit too?

I think this is a champ singing that I would imagine others have wanted to make. This is a type of player that I've hoped to see for 12 months in that position.

Just read those words. The club are clearly happy that it and so am I. I can't wait now for a week on Tuesday.

The club are clearly happy with all the signings they've made, as are most of our fans.

I think being at a big clubs, not a bad thing Andy, actually it's a massive positive. He SHOULD have the building blocks to move forward and fit straight in. He's been trying to chase first team football for a while now and it's difficult in the prem. Tottenham and Palace have had some top left backs over the last few years.

You have to summise that that is the ultimate plan, buy low, sell high but the initial purchase price of the player increases and hopefully so does the return. We do seem to be spending quite a bit of money for this new batch as opposed to what we spent on the previous, although inflated domestic markets could be an influential factor in our increased spend. I for one am really optimistic.

But on the other side of the coin, being at a big club could have a negative affect on him in many ways too, think Mr Billy Big B*llocks, whereas someone who has come from somewhere like Luton to Barnsley, they're in it for the football.

On the flip side though fella, it's limited him to less than 40 games by the age of 25.

He's missed a lot of development opportunities as opposed to what he would have got had he dropped down the divisions early and made his way back up like MacDonald and McGeehan for example.

I don't disagree with you, but in my opinion there's no comparison between playing first team football Conference level and above and playing u23s games. Academy football is probably better for learning the technical game, however playing first team football in leagues 1, 2 and the Conference certainly aids physical development.

I can see why you're excited about this signing, you have been saying for the last year that you want us to sign an attacking fullback. I was pleased to hear Zeki say in his interview on iFollow that he wants to concentrate on his defensive duties first and foremost though, as this seems to be the area he's lacking in according to the Rotherham fans on their forum.

    Fair point.

By admitting you have a soft spot for players from big clubs, it's not a bad thing. People would rather hear you say it than hearing you waffle you way around it.

He obviously wants to play. Which is good. But there are far too many lads of that age who have made so much money that it doesn't matter to them if they never play again. Not sure how old you are, but imagine how you'd feel at 23 knowing that even if your career failed you'd never have to work again?

Like the poster above, there's something a bit more honest about a player who has got to Oakwell the hard way.

Good luck to Zeki, he he proves himself

I think it's brilliant when a player like Chris Smalling gets to the top too. I posted about the player that had signed for Arsenal the other day.

But signing a player from an academy's got to be good. I think Macdonald fit in so well because of the things he learnt when he was 15 to 18. If you look at a player like Payne, he was not doing basics like at corners so the club have to crash course him on that so he can fit with the team.

I have a completely open mind about the signing like the rest of humanity I have seen very little of him on the pitch. Given his previous poor loan spells at Ipswich and Rotherham why do you think there would be a lot of demand for him at Championship level?

For every Smalling, Vardy or 'lad at Arsenal' in the Premier League, there is also a Robbo, George Williams, Mawson and Scowen. Lads who did it the hard way at OUR little championship club.

Folk will always be happier hearing you singing the virtues of OUR players than those for the very top sides.

On the flip side, your criticisms of OUR players will not be heeded til you find faults with the Prem academies too.

Two sided coin, remember that. Stay balanced.

Mawson's every bit the academy player Andy. He was with Reading until 16 then at Brentford until he joined Barnsley in 2015. 2 very good youth set ups. You can see it a mile of with the way he plays.

We've got an academy full of "academy players" just like lots of other teams.

Does it guarantee they will be better players?

How many players these days aren't academy players? I can't think of many who haven't been at an academy which frankly is simply another word for youth team

Before the tier system, it was the full-time youth set ups that had academy's ST. That's the way I look at it. So now Cat 1 and Cat 2 teams. Say Rotherham trained twice a week I believe. Same for Doncaster.........
I can't remember what the others were called
