I just got my membership card for the 1912 Oakwell club. Along with it comes a letter that says I have to buy my ticket at the box office at least 90 minutes before kick off. I can understand having to go to the box office, but 90 minutes in advance? That is way too early for anyone travelling a long distance to arrive at Oakwell. Has anyone picked up on this? It seems I have purchased a discount card which I cannot even use.
Why it has to be 90 minutes before kick off is a bit odd , ring up and buy your ticket before you set off then just pick it up at box office. I expect its something to do with the away fans paying the match day price for admission and the 1912 Clubbers getting it £5 cheaper.
As Johnny Rotten said " do you think you've been conned"? I was going to get one but this has just put the last nail in the coffin for me. This is really stupid there was no mention of this in the literature. More support lost......well done BFC absolutely ***** PR once again. That's saved me £390 then and lost the Club 50+ years of solid support.
Original idea was purely financial to get a bit of extra cash out of matchday fans, not a lot of thought went into it otherwise.
It's typical of the way this Club has dealt with it's fans over the last 3 or 4 years. Very little consideration given to us. Why do they keep making things harder for the pay on the Day fans to watch over priced football. The catigory system is nothing but a con and OFT should be taking a look at this.
Oh, a typical reply from a Mr Moneybags. I put more money into this Club by paying on the day and being in the Centenary Club than a season ticket holder does. What the Club have done is taking the piss. Lets get our fans to help us rip away fans off by getting them to pay £10 for a reduction but make them have to buy a ticket upto an hour and a half before the game which fans travelling a distance or working won't be able to do. There was no mention of this on the Club site or on the application forms. Typical BFC logic.
Ive spoken to the club about this and as I suspected there are plenty of ways to get your ticket: Tickets are available 3 weeks ahead of a game and you can get the discount with an 1912 Oakwell Club Membership in the following ways: In person at the box office By Phone By Fax Online If you are buying on the day you must have bought your ticket 60 minutes before the game. (this has changed since the letter went out) You must bring your 1912 Oakwell Membership Card with you to get a ticket! FOr those that don't know members of the 1912 Oakwell Club are entitled to a discount on Category A fixtures. The cost for membership and the appropriate discounts are as follow: Adults: £10 membership fee for the 2011/12 season. £5 discount off all Category A matches OAP, Student (18-20) and 12-17 Years: £5 membership fee for the 2011/12 season. £3 discount off all Category A matches Members of the 1912 Oakwell Club will have second priority for Cup match tickets after that of season ticket holders. Application form is here
That's still not good enough. I see no reason why we can't just show the card on the turnstile and get the reduction. If they are going to treat fans of 50+ years like this then they can stuff. There are other things I can do on a Saturday when catigory A matches take place which don't cost a penny. How long will it be before the Club is moaning about self inflicted poor attendances? How much does Rowing and the people who come up with these ideas earn each month? Don't they know Barnsley is a poor area, are they living in the real world? Every way to get a ticket but not the way the customers want. That's a good way to run a business. Shaby treatment of fans has become a BFC speciality.
Bit daft, that. The majority of 'pay on the gate' fans won't be there 60 minutes before the game. I know the club are trying to get more fans down before 5 to 3 but it's not going to happen without significant investment in bars in each stand, decent beer snap etc. Can you not ask why you can't just show your card on the gate?
Not at all. In fact, it's not difficult at all. I think we should stop letting people in on the gate because the other options are available. It's inconvenient. You don't want to make it inconvenient for people to spend money in a business. Or maybe BFC do.
Exactly, I rarely go near the ground until 10 to 3. Whats the reasoning why it cant be done at the gate?
how many other clubs offer a discount to pay on the day fans? seems like a decent offer to me? if it saves you £65 per year why not organise to pick your tickets up a couple of days before hand? then you can turn up at 5 to 3?
How many other clubs are charging £30 for 16 games this year if not? It's a great offer, but they're not making it easy for people to use it. The easier they make it for fans, the more likely they are to turn up. Asking them to be at the ground for 2pm to take advantage probably won't work, and asking pay on the gate fans to buy your tickets in advance is pointless. In my opinion, like. Just don't understand why you can't show your card on the gate and hand over £25. It's got your picture on, is there a barcode the box office need to scan or summat?
Yes it is difficult for some people to use one of the options. As a customer of 50+ years I see no reason that we can't pay on the gate. The Club have only said how we can pay. They have given no explanation as to why we can't pay on the gate. If the Club doesn't want us to pay on the gate then they are going to lose customers, fact. I feel so strongly about this I'm considering missing the reasonably priced Southampton match and giving up on the Club altogether.
