Not sure if this has already been posted. "Keith Hill admits he wanted to sign Chris O'Grady. Couldn't compete with #SWFC financially." Good to know he's in the market for a striker.
This reflects BADLY on Barnsley........ ........we can't compete with 1st division clubs......so should Barnsley be in the Championship ?
Maybe because we haven't got Milan Mandaric's backing They're so desperate for players at the moment, that they're gunna offer big money. As a Wendy fan rightly pointed out last week on grumble FM, that's how they got into financial meltdown last time, going all out to secure targets, only to get relegated from the premier league.
Being in League One reflects badly on Wednesday Even this Rob Stanton-Twitter bloke will attest to that.
Gi' o'r wi thisen. They've got more money than us. They bring more fans in. They've got a new chairman. Just 'cos we play in a league above doesn't mean anything, Leicester have been outbidding Premiership sides, is that sickening?
Re: But it seems Wendy can still out buy Barnsley......... They will be paying him more than what we were prepared to offer, not what we could have offered. Maybe Hill didn't want to blow his budget on him so wouldn't go above a certain level for wages. If they want to pay over the odds wages to players then let them get on with it, I would rather us tell them to **** off if they get lairy in the negotiations. Was he worth pushing the boat out for?
Re: But it seems Wendy can still out buy Barnsley......... We probsbly got lucky we always target **** strikers
Best thing what could have happened we have too may League 1 players here already. He's hardley a prolific striker is he? 0.2 goals a game.
Re: This reflects BADLY on Barnsley........ while ever we get more points than three other teams, yes we should.
Re: This reflects BADLY on Barnsley........ I think it shows how far in front we are when they're over the moon at signing a Rochdale player who's previous clubs include Rotherham & Oldham and when we sign players from this level most on here are fuming.
Re: This reflects BADLY on Barnsley........ it seems to me hill is turning into a yes man and will only go for players cryne and rowing wants so expect alf to sign
Re: This reflects BADLY on Barnsley........ Yep i can see Cryne and Rowing knowing alot about Perkins ect! Deary me!!
Re: This reflects BADLY on Barnsley........ i mean money wise where will the money go from the shackel sale or will it just be to pay the players wages
Re: This reflects BADLY on Barnsley........ Doubt we will ever know mate - But its called living within our means. But one things for sure - There will be plenty more O Gradys about and remember our manager bought him for the club hes just left after being at few clubs and doing very little!! Keep the faith son. We will be just fine.
Re: This reflects BADLY on Barnsley........ hope so pal dont want the dark days back.we need new financial backing as soon as so we cant compete with just a few of the other teams.would you agree
Re: This reflects BADLY on Barnsley........ Its difficult isnt it - I think we will compete this season. In fact i think we will be comfortable in mid-table. I like the fact we have to punch above our weight! We have done it before and shall do it again. Obvously investment would be great - But is it likely?? I doubt it. So lets do it the proper way eh. Not pay over the odds for players. Lets get people in that are good value and will care about our club. We have a really ambitious Management team in place that completely transformed the fortunes of their former club. I hope they do half as well at Oakwell.
Keith Hill maybe knew what wages O'Grady was on at Rochdale and so knew what he was prepared to offer him tha the felt was a good increase and a fair deal for the lad. Wednesday were perhaps guessing and offered more than Hill thought was a decent increase/wage for the kind of player he is and he thinks he can get better or at leaset as good for less. Some of the Rotherham fans were saying on Radio Dee Dar last night that he gave the impression of being a bit of a mercenary.
