    ...........to use

..........When i open a thread you have to trawl through different boxes looking for whats been written.
When I open the message board I would like to see the Title and the poster followed by all the other posts
And when you reply, I cannot find the TITLE box to change the title.

WHAT THE FOOK WAS UP WITH THE OLD FORMAT !!!

This message board is doing my head in.........FFS change it back

Is it just me, or can't you just create one thread and just moan there?

What do you mean by having to trawl through different boxes? I really don't understand what you're talking about on that one.

I do find this format to be quite difficult to use though because things seem to be squashed up and don't scan very well at all.
    My main issues are that
    1. viewed threads aren't a different colour to none viewed threads
    2. all the threads are too squashed together vertically with no gap between them.
    3. The replies are too close together horizontally so it's quite hard to see if a post is a reply to the original post or to another one.
    4. The posters name is too bold and the post title is almost secondary to that, smaller and duller.
    5. When you click on a post the post itself is below the links to the rest of the thread and you have to scroll down to read it instead of it being there like it should be.
    6. The box with the thread links in it is way too small and only shows about 5 links, if the thread is long then you have to scroll down to see the rest and it doesnt work on my phone at all (or my mates).
    7. I think the layout is just too cluttered.

The BBS itself works fine but the skin/theme being used is absolutely awful in my opinion.

I think it's designed to be viewed in "linear" mode which works really well. You can see which threads you've responded to and when there are new postings in those threads.

That seems to be how it works on "Forum Runner".

Has anyone tried the Android App yet? Am I correct in thinking the "free" version does not allow postings / replies to be made?

    Settings......>General Settings......>Thread Display Mode....> change to Threaded

Then you see the board similar to how it used to be, I like the new board btw.

Linear mode in my opinion is what has seen many other barnsley forums fail over the years. It just doesn't work well with such an informal BBS as this one. For example in threaded view I can look at the main BBS and see instantly that someone has replied to MY post halfway down a thread and click on it to go straight to it, in linear mode all I know is that someone has replied to one of the posts somewhere in the thread. I click on it and find it is nothing at all to do with my post and i've just wasted my time. Or in a long thread I can disappear for a few hours, come back and see a lot of new replies but instantly see which ones look interesting, are by interesting posters or replying to parts of the thread I was looking at earlier. I click on them and I read those posts. In linear view all I know is that a lot of people have replied but I then have to read through them all to work out what is what, who is replying to who etc.

Linear works in more formal forum settings where threads stay on topic and follow a logical order but on a community BBS such as this where threads regularly go off on a tangent and people just talk to each other randomly threaded is the' only way that makes sense. Unfortunately the skin for threaded view is an afterthought (no offence to gally but it is due to the software) and it simply doesnt work.

Totally agree. Some people just don't like/can't handle change.

I agree with all of that

You've it the nail on the head with the threaded view complementing the informal style of this board. In effect, it allows the board to be used as quick fire chat.

Other than the points you made in your first post, I'd add something I've mentioned before in that maybe "Re: What the original poster said" shouldn't be the default subject for a reply because it serves no purpose. It was the same on the old board of course. Maybe not display the whole message in the threads view though as this forum currently does when there is no subject heading.

Oh, and for me at least, there is an unused space above the threads window (where the "Like" Facebook button is). This causes unneccesary scrolling. Maybe the Facebook link thing is causing this.

Same for me. It's about 25% of the screen (and the top banner is another 25%).

Not sure if my settings are wrong or it's me but when i check the times of the postings they appear to be 1 hour behind.
