roughly 1.000 less reds fans on Saturday compared to corresponding fixture last season against Palace. Worrying to say some would have given it a go due to good pre-season results and away performance at Forest.
Or more folk on holiday? Last year the recession was biting harder. At least for private sector workers. Some have had their first pay rise in 3 years (me).
Last seasons opening home fixture was against Crystal Palace - Attendance 11,353 (total). This season, against Southampton we had 10,501 (total). Is this 10% figure just the reds supporters? If just based on total gate attendance, then it's down 7.51% - But how fewer or more away fans did we have Saturday? Last years attendance against Middlesborough was 11,767 and that was also our 2nd home game, but on a Saturday. So I can't see tonight's being above 10K.
Fair argument if it's the 12th home game of the season, but the first after a decent showing away at Forest? Nar.
Some more debate and figures here: http://v2.barnsleyfc.org.uk/showthread.php?155701-first-Saturday-home-game-attendances....................
10% roughly is just reds supporters. Palace brought 872, Saints 917. Boro last season there were approx 10,200 reds fans but it was also a Saturday game. The figures I have used have been given out by the clubs involved.
I was 50/50 this year as to whether or not to renew. I've become fed up with leaving Oakwell over the past five years thinking 'was that it ?' Also looking at match day as a chore rather than a joy. All I ask for is a team that will go out and try to play attractive entertaining football if that's good enough to move up the league good enough if not and we go down cest la vie.
as ive said previously (yesterday i think), ST sales have been poor.. when i went down and moved my seat in the Ponty, the day before Forest, i asked the kind lady in the box office how sales were going.. i didnt expect a figure.. i thought she'd just say they were ok or whatever.. but she said sales had picked up thru out July, and we had sold just over 7,500.. so thats why we will be doing well to top 10,000 this season, especially once the ludicrous CAT A matches kick in.. the powers that be at Oakwell are so far removed from both reality, and the supporters, it beggars belief.. the ST is good value.. but to categorize fixtures full-stop is a joke.. to then manipulate the category system like they have, is nothing short of a scam.. we are a small club that has consistently sold our best players for a pittance.. the club doesnt seem to do its level best to recoup as much money as possible for those outgoing players, but instead finds it quite easy to recoup as much money as possible from we the clubs lifeblood.. the club does not listen to us, as has been proved time and time again.. most recently with the entrance music.. i know the best part of 500 fellow reds fans.. be it thru facebook, twitter, here and personally, and im yet to hear 1 of them say they wanted the Rocky theme! what happened to that survey?? i know it wasnt the club that came up with the idea, it was put to THEM, and i feel they may as well have not bothered as come 12 months time there will have been no changes implemented, unless they are changes for the worse, or changes that either fleece the fans or make the club money.. reight, ive said my piece, for what reason i dont know.. as well as the survey, ive emailed the club on numerous occasions with ideas and complaints, and despite renewing my ST for 17 years they just ignore me.. why the **** do we bother, when we are treated with such contempt? no wonder the natives are restless...
not all gloom then if the are mainly season ticket holders that haven`t renewed. Paying less per game and some will be free child places anyway.
I didn't go And I'm somewhat of a fat *******, so if the crowd was down 10% on total weight then I could account for a lot of that.
