But it's beginning to appear as if I'm in a smaller and smaller minority. So be it. It's my belief that he'll be a successful Barnsley manager. Others think differently (which is their right), but that's what makes for a good internet forum.

I don't dislike him, just dont get what all the digs are about and what he hopes to achieve by them, I also hope he becomes very successful for BFC.

I'm in the same minority as you Kev unfortunately it seems like some want blood now so it's going to take a good run of results to build bridges. There is something about him that makes me think we will do well with him, I just hope he gets the chance to show us.

Kev, I hope he becomes the greatest manager in the history of Barnsley FC, but I think he is nuts! Every time I hear anything from him, he has a dig at the fans, WHY?

Keep on slating them and they will turn and if he does not like it now, then he will be in for a bloody shock when they really get going.
I wonder what Jim Iley would have made of it? LOL.

I think the bloke will come good for us, and that's all that matters. I think the thing with him is that you either really enjoy his interview style, or really hate it, no middle ground. Rochdale fans said as much when we hired him, luckily for him he won them all over by being successful. Hopefully he'll do the same here. Although you get the feeling already that some are actually looking forward to him failing, and getting their "told you so" speeches ready.

He's had plenty thrown at him on here, for example. I think he's simply having a go back along similar lines to Martin O'Neill in 1996, when some of the Leicester fans decided he was a poor manager to replace Mark McGhee. This was after a mere handful of games. A few weeks later, when they'd won promotion via the play offs, the criticism conveniently disappeared.

    Why do they deserve it?

The fans will be here long after he will. They are the ones that pay the money not him, they are allowed an opinion on an internet forum, if I was paying to see what you were doing i would expect a little respect , not a bloody great mouth full of ballox. For many years I worked in a shop enviroment, plenty of times I wanted to tell the customer to F off, but I did not because at the end of the day they were paying my wages. I had to take some real ****e from some customers and that is why I left that industry, I did not start a war of words with them.

speaks his mind and doesn't pull his punches - lacking a bit on the pr front - if he is successful everyone will come round to him. If he doesn't he's digging his own grave. However, as a manager I think we need someone like him.

Kev , this is the place to have a good old ding dong, there has been plenty of it on here and I am glad it happens here, because I really would hate for the atmosphere at Oakwell to be as hostile as it could be. If the manager can`t accept the fact that the performances have not been acceptable at Oakwell this season, then he really is either blind or very naive !

Perhaps he's fed up at what he sees as an over reaction by some supporters, I don't honestly know. I can't read his mind. As for Jim Iley, the abuse never seemed to bother him. It seems to me patience and tolerance in football are a thing of the past. Everyone & everything has to be an instant success or is immediately deemed a failure. I feel football is poorer for this apparent attitude.

This is the perfect place for criticism, unless it becomes personal. The best way for Mr Hill to shut the gobs of his critics is to win matches.

I hope he has a strong enough character to face down his critics. If he's a successful manager for us, everyone benefits and no one loses. If he's a failure, I am of the opinion that certain people will not be able to resist bragging "I told you so", even though the club is suffering.

Sadly Mr Hill is opening himself to this reaction.

The same can be said of his critics, too.

You may be a minority on the board but this board is a minority of the fans. There's probably about 50 regular posters on here of which about a maximum of 20 are already anti-hill. If we have about 10,000 fans then that's 0.2% of the fan base. Representative sample ? not on your nelly. You are right in saying that it is their right, but to say that they reflect the opinion of 'the fans' would be stretching it a bit.

Me ? I'm a similar age to you. It was a time when managers weren't in the spotlight all the time. In addition to that they had a couple of months of bad results before the displeasure of the fans was heard. I have no idea whether Hill will be good or bad but he seems to have done ok away from home so far, let's see what the home matches bring. Hey ho, times change. :)
