Bye, bye Sky - not renewing. The Premier has sunk now to the SPL - viz. two/three clubs with loads of money winning it all. How people can support teams that financially so ahead of every other is beyond me. I am slowly becoming totally disillusioned with most sport. Olympics - now professional. Rugby Union - same. Wimbledon -same, etc. etc. Might as well watch people working at Zeneca or Barclays Bank, or should I be saying those on Community Service? Plus the supporters, a supposed minority, giving the new Manager abuse, although he's only been in the job for five minutes.
Binned Sky sports off years ago and have never missed it to be honest. The premier league is now just a procession of spending power and greedy players and agents. Top flight football really is at an all time low.
For good honest competitive football you're spot on unfortunately it is going the same way as the premier league with the over-inflated and extended parachute payments meaning there is now a growing gulf between the haves and the have nots. The solidarity payments are peanuts by comparison but while ever the premier league throw a few crumbs to the little paupers they can carry on corrupting the game because they are doing their bit and this keeps the richest few happy which in the modern game is all that really matters.
Money speaks - for sure. Remote fans and bandwagon hijackers - no doubt. But whatever, this Man Utd team is absolutely awesome. They blew away a very good Tottenham side on Monday, already have a victory over the world's richest club this season and this afternoon, against a weakened Arsenal side inflicted absolute humiliation. There are plenty of examples of money not necessarily buying success, but Fergie has got the mix so right, it seems to me the Premiership's sorted in August! I am in no way a Man Utd fan, in case anyone was wondering, but when you see brilliance, it's best to appreciate it. These are the Feregie 'Babes', and they're going to take some stopping.
I have to agree about Fergie as I honestly believe that even without money, on a level playing field, he would still be the greatest manager of a generation, possibly ever.
City will have a say in the title. Been impressed with them so far, look very dangerous going forward now plus as solid as ever. Silva, Aguerro, Dzeko, Nasri, with Tevez, Johnson, Balotelli to bring in. That was a poor Arsenal side today, meanwhile City were taking Spurs to the cleaners at WHLane. The Manc clubs will be battling it out about 10 points ahead of everybody else, but I am still unsure as to which one will take it.
I'd prefer to pay for what game I fancy watching rather than a package as long as the price was right. I miss far too games with too much choice and too many poor performances. Formular 1 won't be worth watching after this year.
Strangely for such a capitalist country the U.S. understand the importance of competition in sport with the draft system ensuring the best new American footballers go to the worst teams from the season before and IndyCar having cars of the same standard so the best driver wins not the best car.
Yes, that's always seemed like an odd contradiction of values for the US. Of course it works because the NFL etc. are pretty much closed systems with little international trade.
