My dad took me but cant recall much. Seem to remember there was snow on the ground and we stood on the kop. Wasn't there a match against Everton about the same time?

to be honest i dont think i went i was only about 7/8 and although i was going to oakwell i was deemed too young for that one because of the size of the crowd.i got football programmes but did'nt get one for that game. think i had monk on for months over that game.
what i can vaguely remember is that it was george best debut or first goal or something like that.memories playing up a bit now but i think everton was a couple a seasons after, official history books at bottom of cupboard somewhere n i can't find it. i'll have to hint for christmas.think alex fergusons brother played for us in that game but same as i say not too sure hence thread ,

I remember it well........think I must have been 6 or 7 - my dad took me and we stood on the kop; we lost 0-4 against best charlton and law in front of approx 36000. My abiding memory was that we played in blue and they played in red and i've never been able to work out why given that we were at home.
    Why do you ask?

ps Everton game was before that - went to that too. My Dad took a beer crate for me to stand on right down by the wall on the Kop> It was January, really cold with snow on the ground and we lost 0-3. Gordon West - from Darfield - in goal for them.
They all seemed like rate big mesters to a little nipper like wot I was then.
    ;0)

just trying to recall what mood town was for big games as opposed to now. when we played man utd other season atmosphere seemed flat.but back then they seemed to be excitable for ages. or is it my memory playing tricks.

your memory isn't playing tricks as I remember - despite the onset of early Al's Heimmers. The town was pretty feverish with excitement, but there was no expectation that we'd get a result.. However I found the most recent cup games (Man U and Chelski) to be at pretty much the samenlevel - if not more - cos of the ultra media hype etc.
My best memory of the most recent Chelsea cup game - walking to the ground seeing all the new and not-seen-before burger vans etc....spotted one called "catering without compromise" - toxic tightrope my arse.
    Funny at the time.

must have been my boyish excitement then as i watched my papa swaggering to the pub saying tha'll not be able to see owt if tha goes, whilst i was merrily swinging on't gate. with tears of joy streaming down my face knowing my heroes were doing battle with englands finest.brings a lump to my throat it does.

...and mine too - great memories of a time gone by - sounds maudlin but that's how me and my old man truly bonded ;o) even now it gets me - nowhere else in our home town do 10000 get together all wishing for the same thing - my romantic interpretation of footy in barnsley and other small towns across england

think it was about 1964,so everton must have been 62ish think the leicester one must have been 68ish with the offside goal.must get a new official history book used to know all these by heart.
to be fair to me dad he did take me to hillsbro to see bobby moore, peters, hurst n clyde best etc.so it weren't all bad.
