Arteta is one of many decent ones imo

Think Mertesacker (sp) to sure up Arsenal's back 4 should be a good signing.

But.... Sergio Aguero, premier league legend in the making.

Stoke have done the best business imho, Crouch, Jerome and Palacios, with Upson and Woodgate at the back, reckon they could finish top 6 this season, maybe an outside bet in Europa Cup an all.

Didn't Arsenal pay £6million for Mertesacker

For a very experienced centre half, that's pretty good value.

Have to agree SM, Stoke have done a tremendous job of transforming from a middle of the road route one championship side to a side with steel and a real feel of quality through them and at pretty good value considering the extortionate prices going round. I've always rated Palacios as a defensive midfielder and thought Chelsea might have fancied him when Essien got injured.

As for Mertesacker. I think they've paid a nominal amount for a defender that will make Squillaci and Koscielny look quality. How he's been capped so many times is beyond me. Saw a comment about him that got reused in the negotoations on SSN. A 26 year old that plays like he's 36... and I don't think it was a compliment.

Think Arteta will be useful but the whole thing at Arsenal smacks of desperation.

Arteta for me too. At today's mad prices 10m is very good business for a very good player.

I can't believe i decribed £7.6m for Mertsacker as "nominal".... madness!

Not so sure - he USED to be a very good player. Injuries taking their toll, so not the player he was 2 or 3 years ago IMO. For me, by far the best value-for-money deal was our friend Charlie Adam. Genuinely a "snip" at 7million or so. I also think that Citeh picking up Hargreaves as back-up will prove to be a good bit of business for them. Not much risk there for a classy, experienced (and yes, injury-prone) midfielder.

Goal scoring machine at this level and he belies his age. Wish we could have him

I seriously doubt that Martyn Waghorn has gone to Hull City for free. Often when clubs loan players you pay their wages and a loan fee.

I think that is why we said "no more COSTLY loans" - e.g. wages must be reasonable and they must be free.

Teams like Man Utd will be willing to loan out players for free if they are guaranteed to be playing.

agreed - did you see footy focus last week when he said he wasn't leaving Everton?

Its a case of Money vs Loyalty

Everton gave him the chance to prove himself in one of the toughest leagues in the world. He's had a serious injury and come back stronger than before. Maybe at Arsenal he'll get the chance to play for Spain, however I don't think this was his sole motivation to move to Arsenal, I think there must have been a great financial gain for Mikel, afterall, Everton have one of the smaller wage bills in the Premier league.

I read yesterday that he had taken a pay CUT to join Arsenal. £75k a week at Everton apparently.

He is now getting 25k less than at Everton, that is what HE said on 5 live yesterday. So if he was on 75k at Everton he now only on 50k a week, poor bugger fancy only getting that much! He must feel humilated when he compares his wages with Rooney et al.

£10million for an injury prone midfielder? Proper snip.

    I really hate football nowadays.
