http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ays-introduve-Rooney-Rule-black-managers.html Brendan Batson says we should address the imbalance of black managers by introducing the 'Rooney' rule.
And if that rule is introduced then I will be done with football. The football authorities should be ashamed of themselves for even discussing such a discriminative proposal.
Positive discrimination is just as bad as discrimination and this proposal should be put where it belongs. Jobs should always be offered on the grounds of ability to do the job not the colour of a persons skin.
Aye got to agree ST. Positive discrimination is still discrimination in my eyes. Batson says himself "It’s about trying to get the best candidate for the job." So what if that person is not black?
But why should there be an obligation to short-list somebody based purely on their skin colour? This is wrong, misguided and cannot be allowed.
Slippery Slope... If they bring in a rule where clubs have to interview an ethnic minority candidate then next thing it will be gender, sexuality or disabilities. In 20 years all clubs with have a black lesbian with one leg coaching....
Re: Slippery Slope... maybe we could save this excuse for later if Keith Hill does not make the grade at Oakwell and then sack him 'cos he aint black'. We could replace him with one of thereev's all time greats....'John Barnes'....and then everyone including the pc brigade would be happy! I do hope this helps
It's not positive discrimination by giving them an interview. Positive discrimination is when they give them a job based on their ethnicity, all this is doing is asking to give black managers a bit more of an opportunity. If they're not the right people for the job, they don't get it. If they are, they do. Don't necessarily agree with it but it's not the way people are making it out.
Re: Slippery Slope... Hopefully not. It seems as though this government are not as keen to bow to the PC brigade as the last lot so hopefully this message will filter down to other organisations and the PC brigade can crawl back under their stone.
I'm not often right but I think you'll definitely find you are in the majority with this sentiment. People on this forum are renowned for their liberalness and inclusive views.
But forcing a club to short-list a candidate based purely on the colour of his skin is still positive discrimination whether he gets the job or not.
But why are there so few black managers? One of three reasons - black footballers are not applying to be managers, they're not good enough, they're being discriminated against.
