This topic has come up a few times (e.g. timerider), but my question is what do you actually want from football?

Do you want ANY music at the ground?
Do you want young lads from Barnsley to play more than for us to be in the PL?
Do you want to take your family along to games?

If people can each write a paragraph about what they want from football (in general and as a club) then maybe we could get an idea of where the club needs to improve.

Forget about what the club does now, and what it doesn't do now. What do you want from Barnsley FC in a perfect world?

The collapse of the Premier League

Man Utd, City, L'pool, Spurs, Chelsea, especially Chelsea and Arsenal to implode.

Then, and only then will English Football attain a sense of reality and a reconnection with the 'average' fan, not at the expense of better safer stadia, but at the expense of over priced merchandise and match day tickets as clubs in the Championship give up their manic quest for the distorted financial rewards that The Premiership brings.

We may also see the exodus of the hangers on, the dodgier agents, WAGS and the front page tabloid headlines which just seperate even more the game of football from its origins and roots.

    It'll never happen mind.

I want Barnsley to try to win every game they play. I want them to go in to every game and attempt to beat the opposition by 5 or 6 goals. Obviously, I know this can't happen and I know we're going to lose games, but if we at least attempt to win the game and get 100% effort from every player then that will do for me. There's nothing more boring than watching us try to stop the opposition from playing with little or no attempt at attacking football. That's not what football is about. Two of our best games from recent years were against Liverpool and Chelsea and in both games we tried to beat them rather than simply contain them. We should do that every match.

I don't care about pre-match and half-time entertainment or what music we come out to. For me it's about the football. I like Oakwell and as long as it is kept clean and safe then simply staging the game is all I want.

I'd like free to air commentary from all our away games.

I want value for money. I believe I get that with the price of season tickets. I don't believe those that pay on the day get value for money. £20 should be the top price paid at Oakwell for glamorous cup ties like the one against Chelsea. £15-£18 is a fair price for championship game.

    That's it I think.

I want the club to operate within it's means financially, have a squad full of disciplined, high quality local lads playing football of an equivalent (or superior) standard to ones of the 1980/81, 1981/82 & 1996/97 seasons, all in an Oakwell packed with supporters & families, the present and future lifeblood of Barnsley FC.
This isn't a perfect world obviously, so I'll settle for these goals beings aspirations.

I want to sit at Oakwell watching a game and think "I'm enjoying this"

and when its all over, regardless of the result, I want to believe the manager, caoching staff and the team did their level best and I enjoyed game.

If I don't enjoy going to Oakwell, whats the bloody point.

    I want to be entertained . . .

and to be entertained enough that I feel like I have had value for money.

We are lightyears away from that at the moment in my opinion and as a "pay on the gate" fan this season I'll not be parting with my hard-earned. . . .

Re: Would a European Super League have the same effect?

What about if the European League got off the ground? Personally I don't think that'll ever happen either but when it was mooted a few years back the more I thought about it the more I wanted it to happen. I think it'd be good news for perhaps 80 clubs in the league structure. The Premier League would be more competitive (personally I find the relegation battle more interesting than the top of the table - it's becoming like Scotland with only two or three clubs capable of winning it), more money would go to the european competition (leaving a more sensible approach from those remaining AND I think after a couple of years fans would be bored with it and would start to return to domestic football. I believe fans want to see derbies, against teams that there's a history between, not with clubs over the other side of europe.
As I said, I don't think it'll happen but I'd welcome it if it did!
