Was it only me, that thought the team were very tentative (fearful almost) about applauding the fans at the end. Perkins was first up, but he ventured no further than a third into the Pontyend half then walked back towards the dressing rooms. Others however, did then venture into that half and did the same. Hardly surprising though given the stick that some have them have had in recent weeks being only league one dross and all that. Hard to pick a MOM but Perkins would be in there with a shout.

I thought the players showed their appreciation very well, and rightly got the ovation they deserved. A bit surprised our "we're all in it together" boss didn't think it would be a good opportunity to build a bit of unity with the fans though ..... Unless I missed it, an which case I apologise.

I don't think you missed it fired. I saw him congratulating some of the players and shaking hands with leicester players then turn tail and head off to the tunnel. Unless of course I too am going blind

Hill did applaud the fans, after the handshakes etc he turned and clapped all the fans before heading for the dressing rooms, it didn't last too long mind, but even if he'd stayed for five minutes clapping and bowing etc, some on here would have had ago at him for going over the top.

I dont think so. He applauded the players and the Leicester players, then turn around and went down the pitch and tunnel. But who gives a damn, he can shove it up his arse anyway. I dont need him to applaud me, but he needs the fans on his side, because it will be a long road without them.

Interesting comments, but Keith Hill was not meant to be the subject of my thread. I was more concerned with the players who initially looked very apprehensive about coming back to return the applause they were deservedly receiving. I got the impression that the recent negative comments of some fans (some very vitriolic) had got to them a bit.

If they, as professional athletes cannot take some ribbing from a small section of fans , then I think they are in the wrong trade!!!

It is something that has happened ever since I started going to Oakwell in the 60`s ! It is nothing new, I really dont understand why it is being made into such a BIG thing by both the manager and some fans?

Madmark, hill waved to the fans and clapped then went down the tunnel.

Not that it matters much, I was more than happy with the performance regardless of whether hill claps us or not.... However it is nice to see that he appreciated our support that's if u stopped long enough and paid attention to notice him do it

    My thoughts exactly

I don't need him to applaud fans either ... But it would have been in his own interests to do so .... Get a bit of togetherness going...

Ah well, never mind, i thought, at least when he's interviewed, he's bound to make reference to how well the fans got behind the players .....

    Or maybe not.

I think he did applaud the fans, from the centre circle. HT is right the players looked unified at the end.

I dont care about being applauded mate, I dont go to a match to be applauded by the manager. I think yesterdays perfomance was fantastic, as I have said over and over on here.

If that's what happened, then fair play to him. All I can say is that I was one of the last folks out of the East Upper, and watched him, and as far as I saw he didn't. Maybe I missed it. Either way the point is it's him who needs the fans onside .... It wouldnt hurts to go out of his way a bit to say thank you.

Apparently I am blind or left early, you are not me so are therefore not the one to be mistaken.
I thought he might mention how the fans got behind them, even if iot was just to emphasize his points from before, but There you go it matters not one jot, until the next time someone boos.

    This is brilliant

Firstly - Tosh - I agree, although to me at full time it looked like a massive weight had come off the shoulders of the team. Really hope that they take confidence from Saturday and that the fans get behind them like that in every home game - thought the 8000 that were there were brilliant.

It would appear though that some on here think that the players and Hill especially should put up with any old ****e thrown at them and then come and pay homage to us when we don't boo.

For what it's worth, if anyone had bothered to take in what the Rochdale fans said about Hill they'd have seen that he has 'his own' style with regards to speaking his mind. Some of what he says seems a bit odd to me, but bloody hell fire, apparently we want reassurance that we (fans) are superb every time he opens his mouth. It'll be a long wait listening to yesterday's Radio Sheff interview. Would love to read some of the pearls of wisdom aimed at Hill in the private correspondence he's received.

Better get used to it. Get a thicker skin developed or else get upset every Saturday night.

    Re: This is brilliant

I'm not upset ... Couldn't give a stuff what he does .... Especially if we start winning..... I'm saying it's in HILL'S interests to get fans onside. He had two great chances yesterday to pull it all together, he chose to tell us that he knows best. He can be as quirky as he likes, but there's a point where confidence becomes arrogance and that gets you nowhere. I'll still be at Oakwell long after Hill has departed. I hope his methods work, I really hope he becomes the most popular, successful manager we've ever had.
He can ignore the Fans as much as he likes...... But he's the one with the battle. It may not be fair, but it's the way it is.
Keith Hill needs the fans to want him in the job.......I'd prescribe a bit more humility, but Keith knows more than I do.

I really don't know what his game plan is with regards to building a rapport.....

    With the fans.

Coming over a complete arse at the moment. Needs to shut is gob and let performances like yesterdays do the talking.

this is why i love msg boards. the difference in views/opinions, seeing different things, seeing the same things, differently! its great.. and even though this board has only 20 to 30 members online at any one time these days, which is a VERY small section of the 8000 fans, its still a barometer of sorts..
Keith Hill has many times spoke of how proud he is to be manager of BFC. i remember him saying that our fans at Oakwell can be fantastic in their backing..
and yestdy, he DEFINITELY clapped the crowd. it was brief, but he did it. he even gave a short wave too although i think that was for someone in the Welcome stand or Exec box..
what did ppl wish him to do?
come straight over applauding, fist-pumping and everything?? in his ambitious eyes we had just dropped 2 pts.. so he wasnt going to go too OTT, because lets be fair, some on ere would have had a pop at him for it... wouldnt they? u know they would..
i thought his reaction was spot on.. and i think, IMHO, that he probably isnt convinced that THAT atmosphere yestdy, will be reproduced each time (i have my own doubts tbh, especially on those winter evenings). so maybe, and this is only a guess, maybe he's waiting to see if we can back the lads every week.. im probably wrong like, but my Dale fan mate Carl reckons its a good point. he was always looking for unity at Dale. he always got at the fans if they were at the players during a game. as Carl says, a lot of their fans never grew to like Keith. in 4 and half years of trying!
BUT, he says that despite an initial backlash when he joined us, the Dale fans are pretty much unanimous in their love for what he did for the club.
my mate also says that while Keith may come out with these arrogant comments and bold statements, he was always proved right.
lets hope he is proved right ere too..
    :-D
