The amount of garbage I've read about Keith Hill's attitude to the fans since the game on Saturday sums up that the moaners had nothing to whinge about with regards to the performance.

People have whinged about his interview where he quite rightly said that he didn't care what the fans thought about the team selection and that it was his ******** on the line. Thats correct. He also said that the team has been fighting for survival for the last 5 years. Near enough, thats also correct. Much like the players performances didn't deserve any credit against Middlesbrough and Southampton, the treatment that the crowd gave to the team in those games was a disgrace and I'd say he's entitled to be pretty miffed with the lack of patience considering we've lost 2 of 6 games and got 4 very creditable results.

As for the team, the majority of the players were fine with applauding everyone, didn't really sense any fear myself - though the majority of the players that I did see applaud for longer than the others were the players that always do (O'Brien, Foster, Hassell etc) and the new boy Drinkwater.

a great and fairly accurate post that whitey my friend, and yes hill did clap fans from halfway line and he encouraged a few of the players to trot down to ponty end and pay homage to lads.

Think you're missing my point ... I am not daft enough to think that Keith Hill, or any of the players give two hoots what I think. I'm not a moaner or a booer.
I just thin kh should play the game if he wants to survive. Yes it's his neck on the line. It's gonna be on the line a damn sight sooner if he carries on with his "I don't give a **** about the fans" attitude. That attitude will get him sacked. Maybe not now, but eventually. He said we are all In this together ... He was right. Small clubs like ours need to pull together. He s been pulling away ever since the first boo.
I'd like him to be a success but frankly every time he opens his mouth I cringe. Me me me. .....

i hear what u are saying fired.
even I believe that he could probably use a little PR. not for my benefit. im quite happy for him to continue as he is. but for the benefit of others, who seem to want him to not be 'Keith Hill'
did everyone over-analyse Robins 24/7? not that i recall.
probably because he was dull, quiet, and trotted out clichés..
the sooner ppl accept that he is his own man, the better.
a lot of what Keith has said and done has been great, but nobody remembers that. they just pick sumat they can moan about. and im not referring to u fired.. because much of what u say i understand tbh..
although, i dont agree with the "i dont give a **** about the fans" comment u said.. because he didnt exactly say that did he?
he was asked a question about fans and said sumat about being not concerned what the fans think because he is the manager. im sure it was in response to a question about the fans and formation etc.
it doesnt help when we have radio deedar presenters on a mission to get him to be controversial. because IMO those tw@ts want us/him to fail. they want THEIR clubs back on top so then their blatant bias is kinda justified..

I saw the players and Hill applaud the crowd. But let's remember, the players and manager were evidently gutted at not getting the 3 points they deserved.
As for KH and his comments in interviews, thank god we have someone with a bit of bottle and says things how they are! Unlike the last 2 managers who seemed to come out with same old sugar coated ****e.

    Re: This is brilliant

He didn't say that he knows best - in answer to a leading question from the interviewer regarding what fans might have made of the staring XI he said he wasn't that bothered what they thought as it was his head on the block if he got it wrong.

As regards at the full time whistle, perhaps he was letting the players take the plaudits ? Seeing as they'd bore the brunt of the criticism from the stands in the previous home games ?

And yes, Keith knows more than we all do. That's a fact I'm afraid, otherwise we'd be where he is, no doubt doing a first class job on and off the pitch, with all words and actions beyond reproach and not giving anything to the microscopic examination for things to offend us that some seem to delight in doing.

    Re: This is brilliant

Who's offended? Not me. Microscopic examination - don't think so.

All I'm saying is that if on Saturday, he'd have gone to the fans, in a more obvious manner, then he would have got a warm reception. It would have been a bonding thing. Ditto if he'd come on the radio and said the fans were supportive, which they were. He missed a very good chance to build bridges that's all.

As for radio Sheffield, yes they may have been stirring a bit, but that's something he has to handle.
For the record, I don't like the booing, and I think some of the treatment he and the players have received has been out of order. But there's nothing wrong with thanking the supportive fans when there's an opportunity to do so. Missed opportunity that's all.

    Re: This is brilliant

He applauded the fans. Perhaps Keith Hill is hoping/believing that what happens on the pitch will please the fans more than any meaningless soundbites or gestures.

Also, would it not be rather bizarre for a manager of a club to be giving it large after a 1-1 draw at home ?

Hill also expressed his disappointment at us dropping 2 points at home, perhaps immediately post match he didn't think he'd warranted any big display of appreciation ?

And please note I said 'some' were looking to be offended - if I thought that was you then I'd have said so.

Just listening to his interview on Radio Sheff - what's fowk complaining about? He shouldn't care what fans think, if he did, I'd want him out.

People on 'ere need to man the f.ck up.

I don't understand what people expect. We dropped 2 points, and it was evident Keith Hill was gutted so why would he run around the pitch like a mad man?

What I summise from this board is that we want to get in to Oakwell for 10 bob and a blackie's egg, and then once we are in, if we decide that what we've seen pleases our supreme footballing brains to such an extent that we don't boo or berate the players on a personal level then they must come and applaud us, tell us how fantastic we are and the manager should pen us all an individual letter thanking us for our presence not just at Oakwell but in life in general because otherwise we are so f.u.c.king fragile that we just cannot cope without constant reassurance.

What's winding me up is we tell everyone that wants to listen that we're from Barnsley, honest, hardworking fowk etc etc. I've been watching us 16 years and from what I can see Keith Hill is about as close to what I'd class a proper Barnsley bloke (I know he's over Pennines but you know what I mean) and we don't like it because he's telling us what he thinks.

    Bairns.

Tell us 'how it is' as long as it's what we want to hear.

I think we only introduced Category Pricing to keep the heat off Hill.

Just can't agree with that at all

I thought Wilson was like that. A really down to earth working class bloke who says it like he finds it. Robins too to a certain extent. But not Hill. For many reasons, none of which I want to list because I don't want to add to the negativity and I don't want to start slagging him off. I just don't think he is.

And it's nowt to do with whether or not he comes to clap the fans after the game. I can't say I've ever noticed what our manager does after a game. Particularly a 1-1 home draw. Only time I expect Keith Hill on the pitch going mental is if we beat a full strength Man City side in the FA Cup. Apart from that it's the players who applaud the crowd not the manager. And in that respect I agree with the original post. I thought the players did a look a bit reserved after the game.

Re: Just can't agree with that at all

He's got a chip on his shoulder and an arrogance about him, no doubt. But he says what he thinks. He doesn't hide from questions, he doesn't throw out cliches like Robins/Davey etc. From the outside looking in, it looks like he's just protecting his players.

He took umbrage from the way the fans reacted to his first few home games as I would've done. Expectations were raised pre-season not by him, in my opinion, but by the performances people saw. Now it's those same people who are getting the monk on by him trying to realign expectations and the only way to do that is to point out the differences in spending power, squad etc. But not once has he said we can't compete, he's said it's going to be difficult but he's confident in himself and his players to do it. That's the type of thing I want to hear but fowk ignore that part of interviews.

Plus he likes Ian Brown so he'll do for me.
