Unfortunately for a dose of football chat and stuff there is no real alternative and thats the only reason why I have put it with what can only be describes as a very poor service to fans of any club other than the two ****field giants. I am getting to the point where I am close to calling it a day with RS.

unfortunately, it seems to be the best way of getting information about the club. The club are so slow with their information. Half the stuff on here is pure speculation, so RS would appear to be the only reliable source.

Having said that, I am considering boycotting them, cos i am getting more riled the more i listen

Professional organisation who offer free to air pre and post match interviews every game plus a number of live commentaries throughout the season.

    Compared to

Barnsley World - amateur set-up that you have to pay for.

Let's run through that again. The professional outfit with slick interviews and quality commentaries you get for free, but the dedicated yet definitely amateur coverage you have to pay for. How the hell did that happen?

That's why I listen to Radio Sheffield.

I'm not having a go at the Barnsley World people here. I know they work hard and I know a lot of people like their coverage. But when Paul Walker commentates on Barnsley games it's as good a radio commentary as you'll get anywhere in the world. Barnsley World is not up to that standard.

Radio ****field is not free though, it is funded by the license fee and as such it should impartial and unbiased which it patently is not.

Jay - just because we don't work full-time for Player (not World) that doesn't mean our coverage is sub-standard. You say " definitely amateur" and I take that as a slur, it's as if you're saying it's not good enough. Well, I beg to differ, I'm not stating that I'm as good as Paul's, but then again I don't do nearly as many commentaries as he does (did) in a season - without wishing to blow my own trumpet though, I reckon I'm not too far away from him standard wise - I make the odd mistake, yes, but so does every commentator, Paul Walker included, and without the advantage of studio producers etc. I just wish I was half the fee that the RS commentators get!

I know you say that's not what you intended to insinuate, but it comes across that way.

I'll second that. Given the choice of listening on RS or Player I would pick Player every time. I only listen to RS when there is no alternative, i.e. football heaven and praise or grumble.

I'm not sure how anyone can label Barnsley Player as "amateur" and not "up to standard (of RS)" - I don't know how much more you can ask from a commentary team that, to me, gives an insightful, knowledgeable and up-to-speed view on the game. My Saturday mornings (I am 7 hours behind you lot) would not be the same without the Barnsley Player team.

The only way in which they could improve for me, is by copying the blokes on Oldham Player (my other half is an OAFC fan) - the commentators there are so biased, and say it like a fan in the stands - they are absolutely hilarious!!! Every week there is a "truly shocking decision" given against them - and they go absolutely ape. Brilliantly funny.

Anyway, Matt and the team, keep up the good work.

I went overboard about a Sean St Ledger challenge at Preston a couple of seasons back and was almost throttled by a Lilywhites supporter below me. Bit dangerous the overtly biased route - especially at away grounds. ;-)

I remember that well - I was chuckling at that for quite some time! Even so, if you ever get a chance, take a listen to Oldham Player (it's on shortly). Funny as.

They have a duty to be impartial but they fail miserably in the execution of this duty. It seems to me that the standard of service you can expect from RS varies depending on factors they dictate and this is fundamentally wrong for an organisation funded by a license fee collected from all your customers.
