I didn't know J.o.e.y was a swear word

    On my previous post, the swear filter wiped the name out!. Can we please have a naughty words list as a P.M Gally?. Only the less obvious words and in this case; names please. TIA

    J o e y Deakins was in the news some years ago. He had cerebral palsy. As a result of this publicity the term 'j o e y' was used as a way of insulting anyone with a physical or mental disability. I think this is why it is on the banned list.

    Correct. J oey Deacon died back in 1981 and was featured on Blue Peter just before he died which is how he reached the audience he did and it was this fame that gave rise to his name becoming a derogatory phrase for somebody with a physical and mental disability.

    Wow.
    You learn sumat everyday.
    I have come across it a lot. But its always - in my experience - been used to mock someone who you can get to do mundane tasks for you. I used to get my younger cuz who stopped with me years ago to make brews and such, hence he was a J O E Y. So thats the context in which ive heard it. Never in a way to describe someone with a disability.
