Schools is part of the answer - should have training sessions in schools, trips to visit the ground, cheap tickets for schools, etc, etc could do all that in Wakey. I noticed that there was a splash in one of the recent programs that the clkub appear to be running Zumba classes, cheerleading classes, and god-knows-what else classes - they are a waste of time, its a football club for goodness sake, leave Zumba to sports centres and cheeleading to cheerleading clubs and instead try and reach football fans!!! Radical thought I know....

in all honesty i bet most football league teams carry on in much the same way as barnsley..............however this dunt mean that the club has to wait to see other clubs take the inititive and reap the rewards..
wembley stadium used to get chocker block for the old schoolboy internationals, and it was chocker block full of screaming school kids, all there because of marketing and word of mouth thru schools,,oakwell for me (the west stand in particular) is the same challenge, just on a smaller scale.
so...untill we gat back in the premiership,,,,,,,get the kids in..and if they're all sat in the west stand its the away fans that'll have to put up with listening to them..

    I actually prefer smaller bosoms

But I think big bosoms are more popular and would result in the biggest crowd.

it shouldnt cost the earth gally, the club itself should sell the food and drink, pies and drinks could be sold at half the price they are currently being sold at and the club would be making a massive POR.....i own a convienience store and i can tell you from first hand experience that we live in one of the most price concious areas in the country,,we do not like being ripped off,end of.....but perception is a wonderfull thing and i'm sure if the club charged thirty bob for a pie (especially if it was an award winner from a local butcher)as apposed to nearly 3 quid for some lovely personp from the other side of the country, then they would be onto a winner..
a cup of coffee, bovril, tea etc costs pence to make,so why charge 2 quid a cup, sell them at 99p instead,,,,,,,,,,,,,
kit, scarves, jackets etc are a rip off and cost the club volume sales,so why not discount it,buy one shirt and get our lasses for half price (still being stung a bit,but it wont hurt as much).

    Re: With great difficulty

I've been racking (sp?) my brain trying to think what goes down well with the kids over here (we attend Calgary Flames games in the NHL) and the one thing they absolutely love is the chance to win a T-shirt. Take a look at the video attached - go about 30 seconds in.

Basically you would have Toby Tyke going round the perimiter at half time (and/or before the game) and he uses the T-shirt cannon to fire T-shirts into the crowd. It can fire several hundred metres so the kids in the upper stands would still have a really good chance of getting one. So not only are they entertained but they get a BFC T-shirt to keep and show off to their friends. If it's the first one in the UK (?) it may even gain some publicity on tv? Got to be worth the investment, surely.

    Re: With great difficulty

I'd forgotten how absolutely ridiculous HSE is in the UK, but if it can happen within the "I'll sue you for nothing" culture of North America, it can be made to work in the UK, surely? As it is the cannon fires a T-shirt up into the air and drops, to be caught. So it would be no more (in fact, way less) dangerous than a ball being propelled by a player into the crowd.

Shut Keith Hill up. Permanently. Take away all his media responsibilities. No pre-match press conferences, no post match reactions, no columns in The Chronicle or the match day programme, no interviews on Radio Sheffield or with any newspapers, nothing. Completely free him from all that side of the job. He can then concentrate on what he does best: turning average footballers in to good ones. He can also spend a bit more time with his family. With a bit of luck he'll be a lot happier and feel far less pressure.

We, on the other hand, won't have to listen to the walking, talking PR disaster that we currently have as a manager. I understand that some people haven't got a problem with what Keith Hill is saying, but these people cannot be blind to the fact that many people really do have a problem with what he says. You must acknowledge that there is a significant number of Barnsley fans who just cannot believe what is coming out of the man's mouth. He's angering Barnsley fans and it seems to many of us that he's constantly trying to pick a fight with the fans. That is not the way forward for any club. Let's just shut him up.

As an alternative we have someone at Oakwell who is the polar opposite of Keith Hill. He's softly spoken, he's measured and he's polite. He's also very articulate, extremely intelligent and unlike Keith Hill is almost universally liked by the Barnsley public. The very few statements and interviews he does give go down a storm and receive lavish praise. He has the potential to rally the Barnsley support, make them believe in the town and the club and to come down to Oakwell in greater numbers, but we never hear from him. So I'd like to hear a lot more from Patrick Cryne. A couple of statements and interviews a month at least, to plug the gap left by the recently silent Keith Hill. I know he's shy and I know he doesn't want to be too involved, but when he's got it within his power to galvanise the fans and make them believe then surely he has to step forward. Why bother owning the club if you're not going to try?

Also, get rid of the category system, drop the prices to about £18 per game and advertise the fact that the club have done this.

    Junior football clubs

I run an u13's football team in Rotherham with a squad of 16, of which only 4 support Rotherham and the rest are premiership team floating supporters ripe for baptism into our religion.

Here's the plan, if the club gave me 20 free tickets for 5 home games in the west stand away end (which sits empty) and make sure there is enough pop, crisps and burgers available to fill an army, (coupled with stacks of merchandising) I guarantee I'll get 20 lads and their dads there and they'll spend a fortune. Find similar minded coaches across the borough and beyond and you'll fill the stand and make a mint.

Why 5 games you may ask? Get them and their dads in the habit, get em hooked, 1 game wont do that, 5 just might?

No it's not rocket science, the clubs most important marketing tool is it existing fan base, the last few days have proved that we are here, we want oakwell packed to the rafters, we are full of bright ideas and we want to get involved. Just give us the chance

    My thoughts exactly

Hilly Bull**** ought to be made to read this thread and the poster campaign thread and see all the good will pointed at the club by the fans despite the bile he's thrown our way recently. Total PR disaster.

Prepare yourself... But I think Hemsworth is on to something.

The ideas email. I like it. Obviously it'll only work if people actually read the emails. But still, I digress.

I think people should take all of their ideas back from this thread, and email them directly to BFC. To every email address they have. Twice. They should print them out in old fashioned letter form and send them it by post/hand delivered. The idea folk should also turn up at Oakwell and make themselves heard. Placards should be made and held up at the ground.

They might not want to hear from us, but by God, en masse we'd be hard to ignore.

This is supposed to be our club.
