Cheated big time, have watched it a couple of times and the ref wasn't even looking at the boxers, should have called a no contest or dq'd Mayweather.
Ortiz was the one who cheated with the deliberate headbutt, as a boxer you must protect yourself at all times, mayweather used his experience and ko'd him. Mayweather would beat Pacquiou as well if they ever meet, he is the best boxer of the past 30 years easily.
there protecting yourself at all times but the fight had not restarted, your correct with ortiz it was a dirty headbutt. im glad mayweather won, should now fight pacman or khan. also did u see when mayweather was being interviewed at the end and had the barny with the commentator? commentator "if i was 50 years younger i would kick your arse" ha ha ha
Ortiz did cheat with the headbutt and was rightly punished with a point off, no idea why he decided to headbutt at that point in the fight with mayweather on the ropes. BUT no way can you say mayweather won fairly, the fight hadn't restarted, the ref was looking away and Ortiz had his hands down.
Yeah saw the interview, had me in stitches. Khan isnt in the same league as mayweather, he would get destroyed. I reckon Mayweather and Pac-Man will meet next summer, otherwise why did mayweather come back out of retirement as there is no one else out there.
name me one better. mayweather has the best defence and is technically brilliant. he looked a little rusty last night but he has only fought 4 times in 5 years or something like that.
2 of those are drugs cheats(allegedly), one has admitted to taking drugs recreationally as well. Sugar Ray was the recipient of more than a few referee abnormalities ,got away with murder and complained to ref everytime he got hit up close. Also the time was in, the fight had restarted, Ortiz was the one that got it wrong. He should have been ready, the referee tells every boxer "protect yourself at all times" before the fight starts, Ortiz clearly did not . He tried to cheat and got found out. Mayweather will beat Pacman too.
Agreed. As Bruce Lee once said " never take your eye off your opponent". Same applies in any contact sport. Mayweather saw an opportunity and took it!
Take a look here, 3.10 in to save you time. Unless the ref is bozz eyed there is no way he was looking at the fight or had called it back in. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKV86djlRiY&feature=youtube_gdata_player Allegations are all good and well, where is the evidence of the drug cheating? mayweather uses he allegation against pacman to avoid fighting him.
yes you have got to protect yourself at all times but the worst part of it is Mayweather hits him once with his hands down, then it's obvious there is some confusion because Ortiz is looking at the ref and then he floors him. By the letter of the law I suppose pretty boy did nothing wrong but if he had an ounce of sportsmanship in him he would've acted differently, of course we all know he hasn't so I'm not surprised. It seems the way with a lot of very talented sportsmen, michael schumacher comes to mind always with this, that although they do not need to cheat in order to win, they are unable to see when they are crossing the line such is their desire to win.
Pacman isn't a better boxer but he would beat Mayweather IMO. One name you should add to that list is Calzaghe who is a great fighter. All these mentioned are great fighters and Mayweather is up there with them all. Whether he's the best of the last 30 years is open to opinion.
Ortiz had Mayweather uncomfortable, the fight seemed balanced, the head-butt was insane, but the subsequent punches from Mayweather were very sly, pretending he was embracing him, but then taking him out... That's not the behaviour of a Champion. If Mayweather thought he could take him out properly, he wouldn't have done that, but he'd been rattled so he resorted to a cheap trick. I don't know if it should have been allowed or not, but it was shameful.
As you say, head butt was insane. Justice done by the result of it. Its a boxing match, not a head-butting or ear biting contest. Rightly or wrongly the way the bout ended, Ortiz deserved the end result IMO
Best of the last 30 years IMO, the one and only JOE CALZAGHE (CBE, MBE) . . . Won the WBO Super-Mid Title on October 11th 97 with a unanimous points victory over CHRIS EUBANK at Sheffield Arena, and I was there with my dad. He knocked the cocky too hat down in the first few seconds with a banging uppercut. On 5th March 06 he utterley destroyed the USA's next big thing - and overwhelming favorite - JEFF LACY, to both defend his WBO title and take the IBF belt. It was at the MEN Arena, and yes, I was there too! LoL The best boxing clinic you are ever likely to see. I was joining in with the "Easy Easy" chants after 6 or 7 rounds. Definitely the best boxing event Ive ever been to. He won every round but the 11th. But that was due to a point taken off for a low blow. 14th October 06 he defended both titles again at the MEN against SAKIO BIKA. He was an animal, and a trio of early headbutts cut Joe's eyebrow badly. But he went on to win on points regardless. On 7th April 07 I visited the Millennium Stadium for the 2nd time in 12 months, to witness an easy 3rd Rd stoppage victory against PETER MANFREDO JR. November 4th 07 he unified the WBO/WBA/WBC/Ring Super-Mid Titles with a unanimous points victory over MIKKEL KESSLER in Cardiff. In doing so he surpassed the 20 defenses made by Bernard Hopkins & Larry Holmes. Only Dariusz Michalsewszi (23) and the great Joe Louis (25) have made more successful defences of their respective world titles. He then relenquished his titles to fight at light-heavy. His reign of more than 10 years was 1 of the longest by a world champ. On April 19th in Las Vegas, he beat the legendary - and veteran at 43 - BERNARD HOPKINS to claim the Ring Magazine Light-Heavy title, after a split decision with 1 judge surprisingly scoring the bout in Hopkins favour. That despite Compubox (the stats thing) recording that Calzaghe landed more punches on Hopkins than any of the Americans previous opponents. And finally on the 8th of November 08 at Madison Square Garden, Joe Calzaghe cemented his legendary status by stopping ROY JONES JR to defend his Light-Heavyweight title, and remain undefeated throughout his professional career. . . . He then retired 4 months later in February 09. He retired as 1 of only 3 Undisputed & Undefeated World Champions in the history of boxing. The other 2 being Ricardo Lopez and of course the legendary Rocky Marciano. I fell in love as a young teenager with both Calzaghe and Prince Naseem thanks to my dads love for boxing. So Im fairly biased tbh. But nevertheless, you cant argue with both his record, and his fcukin clinical boxing style. Maybe not enough 'Big Fights' but you fight whats in front of you. And for me, Britain will never have a better boxer... :-D
How many BIG fights did Calzaghe have? All the so called big fights again st the best in his division all came awhen there were over the hill and not at their peak. quality fighter but he should have fought the likes of Bernard Hopkin earlier on in his career.
Joe Calzaghe's record stands up to any scrutiny. He fought and beat everybody that was put in front of him and to retire with the record he did proves he was a great fighter. IMO of course.
