Set a fund going for a new Rev Tiverton Preedy Stand to replace the old West Stand, nothing too lavish and in the style of the West Stand. Could incorparate a gym beneath for the youth of the parish which could also be utilised by the club. Long term aim it would take years but would give a target for the club and its supporters and would see cash going into the facilities. Just a thought.
Would we be able to get that type of money raised to begin a project like that next year? I think it could be possible, plenty of space for it in front of the club shop/offices.
Re: Name one of the stands the Reverend Tiverton Preedy Stand 125 years eh - you old gits I do like the old kits thing as a fitting commemoration - although we declined our original kit for our 100th anniversary in 1999 on grounds of taste. Chocolate & orange quarters may well have been de rigueur at the turn of the last century but is a bit of a fashion faux pas these days lol. But as well as remembering the past I think its important that the future is also thought of and it could be an ideal time to market the club to the next generations of Barnsley fans i.e. the kids. You've obviously got a "kids club" or whatever so something that involves them. Maybe free S/Ts for them for that season or even to make them shareholders (there's obviously loads of different levels of shareholder btw). We did that a number of years ago and it was organised by our supporters club and the local newspaper. Had massive local publicity and all of a sudden the local kids wanted to become "Junior Bluebirds". We were in the old 4th division at the time & our crowds rose from 4000ish to 8000+ (along with other promotions at the time). Had a page dedicated to them each week and put their photos in the paper for birthdays etc as well as newsletters, gifts etc from time to time. The paper paid for a lot of it & had it back in circulationfigures/PR no doubt.
We could raise the money for the statue by bringing Amos the Donkey back as mascot for the 125yr anniversary and having rides around the pitch at half time for 50p a go
How about The BFC 125? At the risk of this turning into a "proper fan" contest, we could maybe do something with 125 fans Maybe 125 free/ hugely discounted season tickets to nominated deserving causes (maybe lapsed fans who can't afford it because of redundancy, or something?) Or 125 kids to be selected as flag waving "guards of honour" for the opening day of the season? Or maybe the first 125 pints/ pies on the first day of the seaon are free (haha I'm liking this idea more & more) Or maybe the first 125 fans in the ground on the first day of the season get a free commemorative scarf/ shirt whatever. (some enticement to get folks in and spending early) Definitely like the idea of a celebration shirt, and Tiverton Preedy should definitely be part of the focus.
Re: How about The BFC 125? As many living 'fans player of the season' to be guest listed to attend and lined up on the pitch and for them to be given some kind of a thank you medal for their services to Barnsley football club. There would be a kind of 'connection' of appreciation for fans of all ages.
Re: Name one of the stands the Reverend Tiverton Preedy Stand Some players that can score goals wunt go a miss
Excellent idea. I've got one ........ Brilliant idea that. How's about arranging a friendly against Barcelona to celebrate the event
Blackpool, Celtic and Wycombe will also be celebrating 125 years hows about friendlies against them or even a four team tournament pre season as a long shot.
Celtic would be the one to play. Doesn't matter who they play - they always fill the grounf. Went to Jack Charlton's testimonial at Bellend Road in the 70's and they brought over 10,000 fans for a game like that.
Re: Name one of the stands the Reverend Tiverton Preedy Stand Agree with the £125 for season ticket price but if the board want to cover their backs they could do so by saying that the offer will only be available should the support reach a certain amount eg. season tickets will be priced at £125 if we can get 10,000 to sign up.
Re: Name one of the stands the Reverend Tiverton Preedy Stand i think one of the clubs has done that this year, sold ST's cheap on the proviso they sold over 5k. Ended up selling about 7k? (numbers may not be right)
wouldn't object to £30 for that, they'd have to agree to field a full strength team mind, Scunny reject striker an all.
The club would lose a lot of money from that And if we're struggling financially as it is, maybe not the best idea. Say we have 7,500 S/T holders now, we'd need to pull in almost 19,000 S/T holders, just to make the money we make now. Now if it worked out how it has at Huddersfield and we can pull in say 12,000 S/T holders and manage to keep most of them seasons on then fair enough, but I honestly can't see it.
