Theres no future in constant survival in the long term that would have worse effect than relegation. At some point you have to make a decision because constant survival will make attendances dwindle entertaining football keeps fans and if successful adds to the fan base. Entertaining open football could get us relegated but you can't tell me that Championship football has been more entertaining than League 1 football because it has'nt.

What have been the advantages of stopping up the last few seasons?

Extra revenue from TV, crowds etc, bragging rights over local rivals, the dream of being one step from PL, just trying to be the best we can be. I can't believe anyone thinks relegation would be a good thing.

Many fair points there. Will admit I was expecting to be able to watch the same quality of football served up by Rochdale last season, which didnt seem too bad for legue 1 standard, but now realise that Mr Hill would probably have been sacked if we ended up in league 1!!!

TBH, I've probably blotted out the league 1 times, which coincidentally happened at the time my son was very young and i didn't have a ST for about 5 years.

Whether the quality would be as dire as some people are suggesting - I don't know. We would possibly have above average crowds/wage bills for that league, rather than being in the bottom 4,which would make us more competitive. Whilst we may lose our better players to chanpionship teams, we would hopefully have a better than average team for league 1, which would hopefully mean a better win%.

However this is all opinions, and I don't particularly want to start an argument with anyone. We all want the same thing, and hopefully, it looks like me may be on the brink of something good.

    Come on youuuuuuu redsssssssssssssssssssss

Some good points there. No one wants to be relegated, and if we can improve season on season then great. But, as you say, we have not really improved over the previous 3 seasons. I didnt like Davey, but i beleive he left us with a better team than Robins left us with - hardly an improvement year on year. The only reason Robins kept us up was the loanees.

Crowds are at the lowest since we got promoted.

Not a glimmer of the one step

The extra revenue hasn't made me feel as though I've had value for my £300 over the last two seasons

I'll give you beating Leeds as a plus point!

In my opinion we haven't made the step forward we have slowly gone backwards bring back the open entertaining football that Ritchie started with!

Crowd would be even smaller in L1, god knows what they would be if we slipped to L2. The 1 step is at least a dream. We are the top SYorks side.

Maybe so I don't think we would have slipped to league 2 probably end up at top end of the league. The dream is to be entertained every week and my kids may get interested in joining me. I'm from West Yorkshire so finishing above Leeds would be an achievement for me.

Top of the league and get promoted back to Championship, or would we refuse it? Can't finish above Leeds in L1. I think people are forgetting how poor the entertainment was in the pub league.

Well according to Seth Bennett Doncaster getting relegated might be a good thing because teams like Coventry (he really meant Barnsley) who just survive every year are like lame dogs that should be put down.

    Cuckoo.

Watch what would happen to attendances in league one.

It wouldnt be a good thing for them financially given the amount of money that come from the FL for Championship clubs.

Can't agree with that. Of course I would much rather stay up playing entertaining football, but if the alternative is playing direct, one dimensional football each season just to cling on to survival then I don't see much attraction in that. I take the point made elsewhere about one magic season, but I don't think that can happen playing poor quality football. We have a far greater chance of being competitive in this league by playing a short passing game. It is so long since we've done this it will take time to change the culture of how we play and might mean relegation given our financial position. However, if we persevere witht that style of football I believe we would come back stronger and more equipped to compete at this level.

Of ocurse I would prefer this to happen without relegation and on the evidence so far I think and hope that it will.

One point I don't agree with is from MadMark, that Hill will compromise if it isn't working. i genuinely think the one thing he will not do is abandon his principles of trying to play good football and for that I applaud him.

THat remains to be seen. I'm sure if we are bottom three after Christmas you will see a side more focussed on results than "entertainment". Like MM says, KH does NOT want a relegation on his CV.

IMHO I think that would damage Hill's selling point as a manager. If teams do want to stay up at any cost then there are probably better managers out there. Hill's attraction is that he plays good football, although I accept that this has always been coupled with success.

I would add however that there is no guarrantee of survival playing crap football either and we are just as likely to win playing a short passing game as lumping it up front.

    Cuckoo maybe

But if we carry on playing the entertaining football like we have seen the last two home games and confidence builds your on a winner, word gets round and people start to get intersted. If we had carried on with a dull 0-0 or sneak a win confidence never builds and the season dwindles into nothing and we would end up in leauge 1 because of the lack of interest.

Football is about entertainment not about status in my opinion.
