Dean Saunders is set to become the new boss of Doncaster Rovers in a shock managerial coup.

Rovers are bottom of the Championship with just a single point from seven matches.

Saunders is poised to replace the long-serving Sean O'Driscoll, who will go on gardening leave.

Welshman Saunders can quit Wrexham, currently joint top of the Conference, because of an agreement with his chairman.

At the risk of getting it wrong I just can't see this happening. SOD will walk away before he is sacked IMHO.

Totally agree and I think as a result of this ill thought out decision they will go down. I texted a mate of mine last night just before I replied to this post and he said 'no way will SOD be sacked, he quoted Ryan as saying he had the second safest job in football'. He also said that the majority of proper Pikey fans were still behind SOD completely so there will be some unhappy fans this morning.
    Stupid decision IMO.

Thats the end of the Pikey's "Glory Years" he got the best out of very average players and other teams cast offs, Stock, Coppinger etc.... Very strange decision.

what a stupid decision, he put a good team together on pennies and the bad run coincides with a sh*t load of injuries, what do they expect?

I don't think Billy will be sticking around much longer now either.

Not wearing their injuries excuse, out of the injured players only Mason and Billy the Blunt would be in the starting 11, the majority of their injuries are players that normally warm the bench. They have as many players out as us, but l agree with how well he's done with very little funds and the football he "had" them playing (albeit never against us!)

They have only won 1 game out of the last 20 odd though and any other manager at any other club would have been out of the door weeks ago, and 1 point from 7 games this season, we sacked Davey after 1 point from 6 games.

I just can't understand why John Ryan would back SOD on Radio Sheffield this week and sack him a couple of days later. And then appoint a Blue Square Premiership manager straight after, no interviews seemingly. They are looking a bit wobbly now. Looks like the Era of Barnsley and Donny bigging it over the two Sheffield clubs that Ryan spoke about last year will be short lived.

Its not been Ryans decison, two bigger men on the board have made the decision it seems and he's been out voted, bit of unrest on the board at the minute. We'll soon be the stand alone SY club in the Championship.

Seems a very strange decision to me. Then again, nothing should surprise you in football.

Discussing SODs sacking and Saunders appointment on our board this morning, someone reckoned Doncaster would now go down faster than Kerry Katonas knickers.

Brammall said a month ago he was no longer funding them, its up to Watson and Ryan to plug the £2-£3 million gap each year. Rumour as it he was the person behind SOD's gardening leave.
